George
Seriously, what does it cost to put a site like this together and run it? I see they have a store and some ads/sponsors. Are they covering expenses? Making a little profit, maybe? During my time DCP had about 1-1.5K a mo in expenses. Revenue did not meet expenses from conception to my sale of the site. But it wasn't planned on being a money-maker. John has since done a great job with the site - but it is now a private entity so I suppose that's not anyone's biz. Cainan
It's been fun all these years. I don't remember exactly when I joined the moderating team, but I'm sure it was within a few months after launch. I've also been the Community Admin for ColorGuardPlanet, and for the old Community Forums when they were hosted on a different site.It hasn't always been smooth sailing, but we always manage to right the ship, so to speak. Here's to several more years. By my reckoning I joined about a week after Stef. I became part of the moderating team about 6 months after that starting up the International Corps Forum at the request of George. Then for all my sins at the request of MikeN, and BTW I have never forgiven him for this, I took on the behemoth task of beingthe Community Administrator at Percussion Planet. Kinda funny considering that I am a horn player and couldnt really tell you the difference between a paradiddle and a flamadiddle (if there is such a thing). But I tried and then and only then did I get a real respect for what Mike (and now Rich) must have had on their hands being the Community Admin at a monster site like DCP! So my hats off to everyone who has ever posted on this site as it is the sites MEMBERS that have made it what it is today. You guys were the horse and DCP was the water you were being led to! sburstall
Just to make some of us feel old, here's the Cybercorps listing from 1993. There are some of the "old-timers" in internet drum corps. I remember the "trads vs. evo" arguements we'd have even back things. <sighing> The more things change, the more they stay the same.
