South St. Paul Review?

Like any of the other performers drying their uniforms out today, I'm definitely curious of a fan's perspective on the show. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

show was supposed to start around 2:00..I think it was delayed about 10 minutes, but then we got under way. It wa sa breezy negative 6 degrees, with about 42 inches of rain to fall during the course of the show. I was on the side 1 30 yard line, at ground level. (I moved around a lot during the first show).

First up was Chops Inc. They had a soggy sound and a waterlogged look. Guard fought hard with wet silk and ended up coming in second to Brass. They looked pretty good, except that one fat guy who clearly doesn't know his show...I expect they will be better in Rainchester if he can get his #$%* together! Oh...and they need to dump the sabers in Shiz!

The next corps, the green machine of the senior set, was the Govenaires. I missed most of this show as I was trudging up the hill from hell, behind the statium. In the purple dresses, the guard just drum corps fans wet................or maybe it was the rain, I'm not sure. The reigning DCA Class A Champions, the Govenaires had a watery sound and a drenched look. Following up their championship show, "Get on the Bus", the corps presented their 2007 show, "Come in from the Rain!"

By this point in the night, I watched the rest of the corps from inside the car....but no worries - knowing I had a duty to report to the fans of DCP, the rolled up, rain obscurred windows did not affect my ability to bring you this highly informative review!!!

Next up was Lakeshoremen, from somewhere in Michigan. With one of the coolest uniforms of the night Lakeshoremen sport a black and white uni with a light blue slashy streaky sashy triangle thingee that comes in from the left shoulder to add a nice accent tot he black and white. They had a moist sound and a very misted look. 2 thumbs up for having a sexy self appointed wine snob in their corps!! :mmm:

after the black and blue came the red men of Frontier from the land of the heat, otherwise known as Texas. Too bad they couldn't bring some of that sun with them! Still, Frontier is sporting a new 2 tone red uni this year. The new uniforms shimmer under the lights....or maybe that was just the water on them, I don't know, but this corps and can slosh through puddles with the best of them! Frontier get extra credit for having a hot director! :P

After Frontier came what has got to be the corps with the biggest @#$%* of them all (and in the rain and wind, there was a good chance of finding out how true that was!)......marching in Kilts with bare legs exposed to the elements, were the Kilties from someplace where plaid is in in fashion. The sodden sound of the Kilties soared throughout the statium and you had to have been able to have heard that loud sound from at least 20 feet away! Their unique uniforms give them a one of a kind, dripping look and I thought that rowing around the field in rowboats instead of the usual marching made for an interesting effect.

The final corps of the night was the Minnesota Brass. By this point, I'm not sure if their drum major was conducting, or swimming....they both use similar arm motions. But nevertheless, the corps effortlessly stomped through the puddles ot bring us their show "Who are you, and where's your umbrella??" Their saturated sound permeated the torrential downpour, and I give them props for being able to keep their drill forms while dodging the cats and dogs falling from the sky........

Retreat was canceled, though I don't know why.....a little rain never hurt anyone!.............and besides, with a little luck , we may be dried out by DCA prelims! :P

Well Stuie, nice review. I'm glad someone seems to have fun not taking drum corps too serious.

Not trying to take away any of Stu's thunder, but here what I saw.

"AQUAFEST!!!!!"

The evening started by us (Govies) giving our new friends (Frontier) a ride in our new (used) bus "Shaky", all was well untill we noticed shaky has no lights, but who needs lights in the rain? Since we are not far away from the show site, we figure we will fix it later, which is what happend, thanks to the Tuna man and a pocket screwdriver. We arrived to the sounds of the Chops drum line playing on a hill, with my brother in front leading the charge. "WHA WHA SNARES!!!" I think Mike thought if they warmed up long enough the rain would get boared and go away. WRONG!, so the Govies offically blame Chops for the rain.

I'm sorry for blamming MBI for that whole rain thing :P

First on Chops, we were behind them so I did not catch to much, but the drums sounded good.

next up the Govies, and away we go. We had fun, got wet, and made a few people smile, good job. I dedicated our last song to MBI director Ann Jones who probly needed drink instead of a song but thats all I had at the time b**bs

next up Lake Shore----nice drums, good tunes.

Lights get fixed, no break lights "CARP!!!!!!!!"

Next up Frontier, I know they brought the rain with them. Nice horn line!!! new Unis, and they did well.

Now at this point of the show, we decied to send an early bus home, half Frontier half Govies. Bus is dead, parked on hill, low on fuel

Next up "THE KILTS!!" saw my friend J.C. and my arch enemy "The original" El Group-o :mmm:(soon my friend, soon) . The kilts seemed to be in good spirits and from the back, they looked good.

New plan for bus, roll bus to flat spot, Hope/pray it starts, CARP! no go, now bus is blocking street. One of the charter bus drivers comes over and lets us know what he thinks of the situation, needless to say he did not help by pointing out the obvious, and after a few more negitive comments he got tired of being negitive, and went a way. Thank God!!!-----------need new plan, push bus to curb. Bus is dead and out of the way.

MBI rounded out the night with a nice show, and sounded good as well.

Scores announced, and we start with a tie

FREE BEER< who can name the last tie at any DCA event.

"Abandon bus" was anounced for the second time this year, lets go home and worry about it later, and by god that worked!

Now we need to get 2 loads of people on Magic bus 2 (get your picture taken with it at DCA) everyone gets a seat except 7, close enough, lets head for the barn.

New record was set on the way home. not 1, not 2, but 3 chicks can't hold it, and we ain't stopping, so to the stair well,"we need a garbage bag", "again?" "Ya and 1 more after that" I'm not sure what the ladys name was from Frontier, but she is drum corps matieral in my book.

It rained all the way home, I swear we got hit by lightning, we need to fix some leaks, but we made it home safe, and then the party started.

Piolet finds me and wants to put in a DVD of Madison Alumni, can't find DVD, "Lets try it again later"

Lots of Kilts, Frontier, Govies, and Lake shore, everyone had fun, and the bar sprung it's own leak(s) to add to the fun of "AQUAFEST"!

Last call found me around J.C., we have fixed every problem any drum corps has ever had, life is good!
