SCV 99 and Cadets 07

Recommended Posts

I'm watching Santa Clara Vanguard '99... Blue Shades is their closer...but I keep mentally inserting narration, help!

But I guess in an attempt to make this a constructive thread, what's anyone's preference between the two, musically? (None of that OMG narration is teh suckz business). Personally, I'm still deciding, as this was the first time I actually watched SCV's version.

I like that SCV's has more balls behind it (G bugles I imagine), but Cadets still did it very well.

SCV by a country mile.

Much more faithful to the original (which is awesome as is)

SCV without a doubt

In that case, while it isn't in the same league from a performance excellence standpoint, the 1999 Crossmen version is probably the MOST faithful to the original.

Very true, Gary. I played Blue Shades with the Crossmen in 1999 but didn't play the wind ensemble original until about 2001. None of the guys in my college trombone section could believe I was already playing it nearly perfect during the band's first read of the piece. I credited Michael Klesch's arrangement for my success.
