I will ask some of the members at the open house. There are still a few who marched

during the Championship era and still march with the present day Kilties.

Trust me, they will let us know if any disrespect has been slapped in their faces.

Now you are welcome to come on over to the open house and check it out.

It would be great if you brought over some friends too. :)

2008 Program

The philosophy behind the programming of a show for The Kilties is to choose and create material which is challenging and enjoyable for the performers and staff, yet is able to be appreciated by and entertaining to every person in our varied audiences. The product must be creative and well crafted without giving up the power, intensity and excitement which traditionally had been the trademark of the drum corps activity.

The 2008 program for The Kilties will be based on the musical works of Renaissance composer Michael Praetorious. It is quite unlike anything that has been done before, challenging and loaded with variety and effect. It kicks!

Director and Program Coordinator - Scott Stewart

Brass (including visual) - Guy Gregg, Stephen Jones, Barry Oosterwaal, Larry Pawlowski and Clay Wachholz.

Brass arrangers – Scott Boerma and Rick Kirby

Percussion (including visual) – Alex Arcano, Chris Perna, Davonna Thomas, Jeff Thomas and Chris Tomaloff.

Percussion arranger: Jeff Moore

Color Guard – Chris Jacobson, Mike Marcantano, Korrie Powelski, Kurt Wouters

Visual – Andy Brady, Terry Knopps

Purpose and Goals

The Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps exists for the benefit of the participants. The program is structured so that it fulfills the desires of those that choose to be an active part of it. The two major goals of the organization can be broken down to the following:

1. Creating a positive environment that promotes character and social development, encourages a deep sense of camaraderie within the group and presents a positive image to all outside the group that come into contact with it.

2. Establishing a system that allows for the achievement of performance excellence through an exciting, entertaining program design produced in an efficient manner and within the timeframe of an all-age corps.

A Realistic Schedule

The rehearsal schedule and performance schedule has been established out of consideration for your busy life. It is as light as possible but it still allows us the ability to reach the levels of excellence we all expect. In order for this to work, everyone must understand that all rehearsals and performances are mandatory and you must be on time. The other half of the equation is that all individual work must be done on your own time so that rehearsals as a group can focus on the ensemble. If you need help at home, we will arrange for someone to help you.

Preparation Season

In the preparation season (December through May), we will rehearse one weekend each month (Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). The schedule is as follows:

December 1st and 2nd (2007)

For all current and prospective members. This will include an organizational meeting, evaluations, banquet and rehearsal.

(Special times: Noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to

3 p.m. on Sunday. Banquet information is available to those interested in attending. All current and prospective members are welcome to attend the banquet.)

January 5th and 6th (2008)

Percussion only

January 26th and 27th

Rehearsal camp weekend – full corps

February 23rd and 24th

Rehearsal camp weekend – full corps

March 29th and 30th

Rehearsal camp weekend – full corps

April 26th and 27th

Rehearsal camp weekend – full corps

May 24th through 26th

Rehearsal camp weekend – full corps, Racine Parade

Got my banquet invitation in the mail yesterday. There are two things different about this year's banquet:

It is free to all of the 2007 marching members.

It is open to all.

Let us know if you are interested in helping us celebrate our past and our future. Kiltie alum and historian George Fennell will once again be one of the keynote speakers and will present another "History of the Kilties" presentation. This year George will highlight the DCI years. 2008 Financial Information

In 2008, The Kilties will have possibly the lowest cost of membership in the entire activity. This is because expenses are carefully watched and many expenses will be eliminated because of the dedication and altruism of the management, teaching, design and support staff.

The investment in your corps will only be $300 in 2008. This means that the amount members are paying is actually lower than in previous years, and more will be provided including the full cost of bus transportation from Racine to out-of-area performances (members may still travel on their own if they prefer) and select other performances, and a higher percentage of meals served.

The only other expenses are some uniform accessories, housing at the DCA Championships and meals that are not provided by the corps. If you come from out of the area, you are responsible for your own transportation to and housing while in Racine. We will, however, help with carpooling advice and housing with local members or sharing a hotel room with other out-of-town members.

The payment schedule will be $50 at each weekend camp starting in December and finishing in May. If you wish to pay all of your investment up front or more than $50 on any weekend, it will be much appreciated.

THE KILTIES: A NEW ERA

If you have ever thought about being involved in a drum corps that is set up to offer an exciting, healthy, challenging experience in an efficient timeframe that works with almost everyone's schedule, The Kilties may be just what you've been waiting for.

A Little History...

Founded in 1935, The Racine Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps has been evolving for over 70 years. A successful junior corps throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the corps continued its consistency into the first decade of Drum Corps International, as they earned a finalist position six of DCI’s first seven years. After the 1982 season, the corps went inactive but rose from the ashes in 1992 as an alumni corps. Since then, the organization has developed into an all-age corps that performs at DCI and DCA events as well as appearing in several parades, concerts and exhibitions.

New Director - New Direction

In 2008, The Kilties are ready to take another major step forward. Under the leadership of new Director and Program Coordinator, Scott Stewart, The Kilties are ready to prove that excellence and enjoyment are not conflicting terms. Well known and well respected within the drum corps community, Stewart was the Director of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps from 1977 to 2002, and program coordinator from 1980-2002. In 2006, he led the very successful Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project.
