TennTux
#3 played , in 68, with the Reilly/Archie combined corps which only lasted that one season He and a few others then went down to Baltimore and won a couple of Nationals Now playing with the Reilly Alumni and almost anyone else in the area Unfortunately he's not doing much swaying anymore He's not swaying as far nor as often these days for sure. Great guy and a good friend Agreed!! (and ditto! )
TennTux
Way before he ever held a bugle, #3 was a seasoned performer. His mother directed local musicals and revues, and always tapped him for some role. It was always a great time performing in the Minstrel Shows #3's mom put on every year. We were all "volunteered", personally and I don't remember very many saying no to mom. LOL Donna and I were members of the Renegades (RCA Sr. Corps from Everett/Boston, MA) that #3's older brother & sister in law (Ed was our Director and Jackie was just about everyone's big sister) and his sister (Louise, Guard Captain), among many others, started the Corps after their departure from Lt Norman Prince Princemen. As far as mom was concerned if you were a member of the Renegades you were family. And family performed in the Minstrel Shows. heh (I have a Minstrel Show program book around here somewhere...) Donna and I were around his family a lot back then so we saw #3 quite often. I once asked #3 why he never marched with the Renegades, he said he was too young back then. (I was 16 when I joined in 70) *edited fer spellin'* Edited July 24, 2013 by TennTux

TennTux
#3 used to tell me about his Family Recitals around the holidays and how gifted all his siblings and offspring were ... a part of his background I never knew about until several years ago ... :-) Though the recitals started years before Donna and I got involved, it was a blast doing those. Again, because we joined the "family business" (Renegades) we were recruited as performers and stage hands. We all had a little something to do and #3's mom made sure everyone felt very much a part of the family. For Donna and myself, we started around 1970... rayfallon
haven't seen his son in a couple of decades, but at approx 20 years old he was an absolute dead ringer for #3. I figured he'd end up in movies...

rayfallon
Musicals ... of course! :lol:/> Just a phrase... the Philadelphia/South Jersey area always seemed to have a phrase for good looking guys in drum corps - they called them "matinee idols" if my memory serves me. I remember the "Belles of St Marys'" crowd talking about Frank Neil that way a lot. #3's kid looked just like his old man did swaying on stages in Brooklyn and Staten Island - a matinee idol. Guys like me who could only be cast for "Godzilla" movies were always a little jealous of the real matinee idols.
HornsUp
That matinee idol visage belies the personality of a mass murderer. Our #3 subject ran an exterminator service, and has snuffed literally billions of creatures with six legs or more. He would be most welcomed by any DCI corps touring the South.
