  1. 1. As "dutting" goes, you fall in the following category:

    • Dutting is fine if it's in context. Appropriate volumes, please.

    • Dutting is a crutch, un-musical, and are a blight to the music. I sometimes (or often) wish they weren't allowed.

    • If it makes the ensemble clean, loud duts are fine. No need to keep them quiet; I'm not bothered at all.

Dut if visual/audio cues are not available (this means you are in a unique or difficult drill move). It should only be loud enough for those that need to hear it, not the audience! If you are doing silent drill...it's impressive because it's silent. Dut, chut or whatever is not silent. It's a simple rule.

Well, so far, there are only about 23 people who have a problem with dutting at any point. I don't see what the big deal is, it's just one of those sounds that lets you know you're listening to drum corps.

If you have that big of a problem with it, just listen to studio recordings.

I believe Phantom duts. It's just not as noticeable as others. Check out Paul Rennick's webpage for mp3's

yea sorry, I just listened to them. They do dut, but not very often. Oh well, that blew my perspective, at least I'll admit to being wrong.
