cd89
From the Arizona Academy website:"Academy sponsored by Jupiter Band Instruments in 2008. As a part of the Quantum Marching Project, The Academy will be sponsored by Jupiter to premier the latest instruments produced by Jupiter under the names Jupiter Brass, Mapex Marching Percussion, and Majestic Field Percussion. See more at www.quantummarching.com." Whaaa??? They had a whole line of Kanstul Bb brass.... Jupiter must've given them one HELL of a deal for them to switch over...but if they can crack finals on Jupiter gear, that'd be quite a feather in Jupiter's cap ( not to mention great exposure for their line) It'll be interesting o hear how Academy sounds on the brand. Have not read this entire thread yet so what I'm about to say may have already been said. I've heard that Jupiter has some of the old craftsmen from King and will be using the same mandrels to make the horns. If that's the case, listen to some of recent King horn lines like Crown 06 and Phantom and that will tell us what kind of horns the Academy are going to have. If I'm correct about the new Jupitor staff and mandrels, this will be a great move for the Academy. Edited January 7, 2008 by cd89
rightofway
Just don't let the tuba players design the visual program again. Please. They never did. They were 100% involved in the music program and had no part in visual. Edited January 7, 2008 by rightofway
Tom Brace
They never did. They were 100% involved in the music program and had no part in visual. OK....the tuba players are now officially off the hook. But, not the person(s) who were in charge of visual design. YUCK!

He designed all that marching brass. i still want to know what a "training horn" is? like a training bra? or training wheels? because the Kanstul stuff is top of the line, and using them for "training" is disrespectful to all the sponsors and donors who paid for them. and at six years old, they are just getting broken in. Dynasty horns are designed to last only about three to four years (think "Bic") but Kanstul will last for 10+

BariEuph
i'm assuming they'll make a flugel horn, too, since academy marches a flugel line. i stopped by the jupiter booth at FMEA to see if they had them out on display yet to play on, but no luck. they debut next week. FYI, any horn, Kanstul or otherwise, after being put thru the rigors of a 6 drum corps summers..drill collisions, eq trucks, corrosive breath, etc, are worn. They rattle, are constanstly being repaired and lose their finish. A company made Academy a great deal where they could put new instruments in the hands of the kids nearly every year at a lower cost. What did you expect them to do?? Great move. I'm sorry that you find a corps replacing its older horns disrespectful.
