whitedawn
don't get anything with too much tread on the bottom. those practice fields in indiana with 4 inch grass will KILL your legs when you can't glide a little. any good, solid athletic shoe will work. just make sure you wear em for a couple of weeks before you leave for the summer. contrajedi8
New Balance are good. I've found with them, the first thing to go is the back heal part. The fabric wears away and there is a piece of plastic that will rub the back of your heal and give you mega blisters. I had one in 02 that was hell on earth. Adidas are not good. I've found that they sole can become detached from the shoe and that is just no fun. Saucony's are good. Well consructed and long lasting. I think they are your best bet. A bit more expensive, but worth it.
rightofway
I would recommend Asics supplemented with Dr. Scholls' inserts. I went through half of all-days without the inserts and my feet would start to hurt by the end of a 13 hour day (as is to be expected). I got the Dr. Scholls' inserts and my feet felt great the next day.
Vanguard07
I highly recommend Brooks running shoes. I have had mine through three years (two marching band seasons, one drum corps season). Any they are still holding together, they look a bit shabby but they work. Brooks Website
Vanguard07
I would also recommend that which ever brand and shoe you decide, you spray them generously with scotch guard.
JonnyMo
New Balance is probably my favorite, but I have nike shower sandals!
bedford
Hey everybody! I'm speaking pretty much only to vets on this one. I'm going to be marching my first drum corps season this summer with a top-12 world class corps. (On tuba) I've been to a handful of camps and I have really sore feet and blisters by the time it's over. I just need to know what kind of shoe will give me the least amount of problems this summer. Vets, I need your wisdom! Forget the Vets - try the podiatrist, chiropractor or orthopedic specialist if you got issues with your feet
2ndSop4Life
right now, i'm running in a pair of nike reax. i don't normally wear nike, but i got a wicked deal on these. i used to work in a shoe store, and i'd usually recommend asics or new balance. i try to stay away from adidas, nike, and rbk because they don't last long. last year i marched in asics and they're good for another year and will definitely be my backup shoes. just make sure you get something with a lot of mesh so your feet ventilate well. also, try investing in a pair of dr scholls soles or something, they'll most likely be better than what's already in the shoe. plus, they make a lot of things just for your heel, the back up your heel, your arches, etc is you don't want to go with the whole sole. just a thought. keymodf
I did a season on nike shox and the shox fell apart about halfway through. Last summer I used the cross trainer shoes that Puma has out right now (not the cell ones). Very light and feel great on my feet.
Schickmeister
In my experience, its worth spending the money on shoes. I wore very expensive Nikes and they were fantastic. The year before I wore cheap ones and they were horrible.
