The Safety of Children.
JonnyMo replied to drumcorpsdrummerman2012's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I started marching when I was 16. Part of Drum Corps when you're that young is learning to grow up. You have to be responsible and learn to understand that your actions have consequences. When I came home I was way more responsible than my friends in high school. I always saw that as a positive thing. I'd also really rather religion didn't come muddling in to "regulate" the activity. Not everyone ascribes to that sort of thing. I survived and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Adding a minimum age limit would have significantly changed my drum corps experience for the worse. -

Drum corps in Sportscenter commercials
JonnyMo replied to madscout96's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Okay, I'll bite. So you've got one of the various anchors doing the show, commentating on some sporting event, when a judge clad in a green shirt and khaki pants walks within the camera short and starts making comments into a tape recorder, as if judging the anchor's preformance. The anchor throws his hands up in the air in frustration and calls for a cut and a commercial break. The judge stands there watching him for a moment before commenting "Poor recovery." and walking off set. -
The Bristol RI show was especially muddy. AND we had an encore right after the show, which we got to perform thoroughly moist and muddy, For the most part our uniforms had to be cleaned after every two or so shows. Thankfully we had a great volunteer staff who worked tirelessly to make sure we always looked our best. photo credit to Evan Vandoren taken from facebook.

Corps Rivalries
JonnyMo replied to Aussiehatswithfeathers's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I'd say the real rivalrys are the ones that stand the test of several years. There will always be a little tension between corps right next to one another scorewise, but that's just part of the whole competitive game. I'd say there has been a pretty strong Crown/Boston rivalry going on, at least up until the past year or so... -

eh, I'd say the Band-geek stereotype exist because of corps who play dirges during parades (or maybe the band-geek stereotype exists because of...well maching bands at footbal games?...Just a thought)...as opposed to say an Earth Wind an Fire pieces that more "normal" people would know and could dance to. I know at the Bristol 4th or July parade, those good old Earth Wind and Fire Tunes always seem to get an awesome crowd responce. Which his really what it's all about.

pretty much any Styx or Queen hit...that is what it's all about

I would say it definetly depends on what's going on. Sometimes there might not be enough time to get a trash bag or whatever you woud like to wear so you just put your shir in your bookbag and hope you don't get sick. then there are the times you can get ready and bring a hoody (if it's cold) or a poncho/rain coat if it isn't. trash bag for backpack is probably more important than what you put on yourself anyway.

my rehursal bag was my life it's lasted me two summers but I might be retiring it this year to get a new one things in the bag: music drill dotbook(s) black towl(s) usually brown from sun damage) trash bag(s) hoody unused sunscreen Gloves GOLDBOND tylonol immodium cough drops GOLDBOND! pencils shoe strings sweedish fish old chips name tag extra shirt cell phone wallet ipod and some trash.... there was more stuff but I can't think of it haha

What are the best shoes to march a season in?
JonnyMo replied to smashbalance's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
New Balance is probably my favorite, but I have nike shower sandals! -
The beach is awesome over the summer, show off your tan and chill in the water...malls are good too though

Hopkins, hash marks and pushback
JonnyMo replied to Rusty's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
the hash marks were almost impossbile to see on the field that night, the yard lines were difficult to see too... actually all in all the field was pretty bad... -

I hardly ever cut my toenails on tour haha, I've never gotten an ingrown toenair though, I try to cut them every laundry day or so though. I think if you cut your toenails too often you're more likely to get ingrown nails. That's just from observtaion...I don't actually know for sure. haha

Well, it sometimes depends on the brand or size and shape of the shoe for me, sometimes I wont know how my feet will react untill marching in the shoes a day or two.

I had a huge blister on my big toe in 06, I didn't have a knife so I had to pop it with a shaving razor. Puss went all over the bag next to mine. haha. my toe is atctually a little disformed from it

I suppose it's not too much different than having a poster of your favorite football player, or music star...

It's hard to sound good on the move if you can't march though...thus the "soley" part of the statement.... ^_^
