heck, it isn't really much of an opinion. i just feel it's my god given right to tease blue devils about two things: michael bolton, and playing strawberry soup in 4/4 (come on guys, you're the devs, fercryingoutloud!!).

Can't tease them about Strawberry Soup for that reason. They played it in either 9/4 or 9/8, it was definately not 4/4.

Jeez, is it really that important?

Ya know, Suncoast's corps SONG was Greatest Love of All. BUT it was the George Benson version, not the Whitney Houston version. And GASP... the corps made finals the first time (1983) playing it (and it pretty much rocked!)

Again, who cares WHO THE SONG WAS BY... it kicked ###! (Obviously you have some sour grapes or something...)

From Wikipedia:

<<"Greatest Love of All" is the fourth and final single released from Whitney Houston's self-titled first studio album, Whitney Houston, released in April 1986. It was written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed, and originally recorded (as "The Greatest Love of All") by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali film The Greatest. The original record was a minor hit for Benson.

Label head Clive Davis was against Houston recording the song, but eventually gave in after persuasion from Masser. The song was included as a B-side to the single "You Give Good Love", which reached number three in the U.S.

The original album version features a piano intro, while the single version begins with a keyboard intro. After the single became a success, it replaced the album version on subsequent copies of the album.

When Linda Creed wrote the lyrics, she was in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. The words describe her feelings about coping with a terminal illness and being a young mother. She eventually succumbed to the disease and died on April 1987 (at the age of 37), the same month that the single was released.>>

I can't believe none of you are giving any love to Sexual Chocolate's version of "The Greatest Love Of All". That was by FAR the best version!

“We need more GE in out Pirate show.”

“Remember the Scout’s drunk pirate sloshing his bottle in 97? That was fun!”

“Yeah but we need more than that. How about the entire guard throwing water in the air?!”

"hey, we've got 30seconds of show to fill up"

"how about before we start playing music in the opener, we have the entire corps stand in giant cluster"

"yeah!! and they can make noises!"

"how bout, shoooo"

"then haaaaa"

"that'll lead us into the firebird perfectly"

shoes......sox.......shoes.......sox

I still feel bad for laughing as hard as I did - but here's how it went. So, the corps starts invoking the Firebird and all, and suddenly one guy jumps up and yells real loud - only to be followed by the rest of the corps about 2-4 counts later. If you've seen the show, you realize the inherent humor in this.

Hey, lets make all the drummers play instruments that sound like empty Folgers (Snares), Maxwell House (Tenors) and Community (Basses) coffee cans........

Cavies '88 production meeting mid-summer:

How can we make the show more exciting?

Not sure...hhhmmmmm

How about at the end we have some guard members unfurl a Firebird Hood Ornament while the cymbal line picks up a huge banner with streamers and runs through the entire corps!!!!! It'll look like a huge Firebird/Carwash ending.

Can't tell you how many times those streamers got caught around our necks or our flag poles.

Later,

Mike
