gjdavistuba
Are you a music major? If so, just take something difficult that you play in the studio back at school. If not, play a solo that you've played before thats difficult but that you can sound great on.

randomnoise
Don't have a tune, but here is some advice that has worked well in the past: Pick something that you can play extremely well. It is better to play an easier solo well than to do an average job on a virtuoso piece. If you want to compete to win, find out what previous winners have played. Then pick a solo of a comparable level. Play dynamically and clean!

melligene
Flight of the Bumblebee Funny you should mention that. Riggie Laus, of Pittsburgh Rocket Fame, and still playing with Steel City Ambassadors at age 83 (i think) who was also at DCA I&E this year with SCA Ensemble.......played Flight of the Bumblebee, for one of his undefeated sop national titles, on a "G" piston slip slide bugle. You can cheat on a 3 valve but....not on a piston slip slide. Truly an amazing man...and a true gentleman.
crazymello
For DCI i&e, do flight of the bumblebee on trombone. >_> That'll earn some points.
