  1. Brandt Crocker will be the first man to have his living head preserved in a jar (a la futurama) so he can announce forever.
  2. Rondenero- "We like to call this feeling 'electric.'" Me in the theater- "So would DCP. They finally agree on something."
  3. Those are literally the current latest scores.
  4. The problem with scoring demand is that it's inclusion in the final score is obscure. The problem with defining demand is that there are too many categories of demand. My suggestion would be to have demand as a subcaption of every caption. So you can literally score the demand purely and execution purely then combine them. That way, also, neither of them could get anyone higher than a 50%. You need a good combination of both to win. Say for BD visual, They have a 15 in demand, but a perfect 20 in execution... well that would give them a 17.5. But if Cadets came in with a perfect 20 in visual demand (which can be defined... vis judges know what is hard and what isn't) but executed it like a pile of buttwhipe, then they could be literally awarded for their visual performance. (as opposed to an approximation thereof with an obscure "consideration" for demand)This may drop them to a really low score, like a 14, but their demand would still be there in a defined manner, bringing them to a 17. Yes, BD still won, but demand was not just thought about, but defined and added to the formula. This forces corps to push their members (which, isn't that one of the big purposes of this activity?) and not to take it past where their members can. Demand without performance gets a crappy reward, as does performance without demand. Also you can define demand much more effectively instead of evaluating it as a whole show. If they have hard music, but easy drill, then they get good music scores and bad vis scores. And as far as simultaneous marching and playing, that would be put in the playing demand. Because marching while playing sixteenth notes is a lot more likely to hurt the music than the drill. So the music captions can award the music while moving. And of course, they already did that for performance, because if you sound like crap while moving, then well... you sound like crap while moving.
  5. Just when you thought they couldnt get any more obscure... they prove you wrong.
  6. The crowd was pretty quiet in 2010, actually. Presumably because they were all bundled up trying to keep warm.
  7. Crown, Cadets, and Troopers played "Somewhere" from West Side Story in 2009. Also, Cadets and troop were both playing WSS shows.
  8. I dont understand the debate. I mean, he DID SAY that the cadence was lost. >_> I only saw the video as backup of that point, seeing as they clearly have not found it!
  9. Klesch arrangements with the martins at the helm would be interesting.
  10. http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=3...80-7f59a96a2fb7 Apparently someone's trying to get one off the ground. I think as much needs to be done to support this as possible.
  11. I mean, there is g8 stuff peeking it's head, but still. The biggest problems of the G8 thing involved exclusion. Like, jettisoning open class for example. this, however, is far more INCLUSIVE in nature, other than those few events, so I think we can put our smiles on.
  12. "I'M TIRED OF THESE MOTHER ****ING TICKS ON THIS MOTHER ****ING FIELD!"
  13. i've thought about putting a blast-esque stage marching and brass playing group together to try out for america's got talent, but I've never really executed this idea. It would be cool though. I mean, if you put out some drum corps power in that type of room with those accoustics, even with 16-24ish horns, it's gonna be noticed.
  14. In Open Class: Empire Statesmen Renegades Kilties Music City Legend (I assume they're coming back since they won the chase grant) then, in class A at least half of them are on Gs, some of them are even on 2vs.
  15. I DON'T WANT BD! STAY IN CONCORD, YOU... YOU... STUPID HEADS!
  16. Wow, so considering Cadets drill, with a show title like "Move," they seriously must be flying. >.>
  17. Bbs are fine Hard drill is fine, good even. It just can't get in the way. I wanna hear good music, like, with connected phrases. It doesn't have to be a tune I already know, or something easily recognlizable, but it has to be something with more than one short phrase at a time separated by long pit and drum doodles. Drum features are cool, but they shouldn't be mixed in evenly with stuff. I wanna hear complete phrases connected together musically with loud moments where needed, but not forced. I want to hear less synth being used as a crutch, but sound effects, I have no problem with. I wanna see demanding drill AND demanding music. It is indeed possible to make it engaging at the same time! There are elements of old era and new era in there... Basically Old: Pros- complete music. No broken up sliced and diced arrangements. Much appreciated. shows that may have connected themes, or things the music has in common, it doesnt have to have a complicated story. Though, I have no problem with complicated stories if I can enjoy the program with or without it. cons- tone quality sacrificed for volume. Only play as loud as you can with a good sound, which is pretty dang loud, you just have to inch it up and work on it instead of blowing your chops out.' intonation was pretty terrible usually Balance.... tons of stickouts in the days of old I know we can blame technology and recordings for some of this, but you old timers know it happened more than you want to say. drill wasn't engaging. The point of drum corps is engaging music AND visual. If you don't have both, go borrow some of BD's chairs and hang out in a concert hall. Way too many "forced" loud moments. like they just tried to stick as many impacts in as they could. I feel like they're desperately begging for crowd reaction rather than earning it with their program. New: Pros- Generally better music education. You hear tone quality, balance, and generally good ensemble practices. They're teaching you to be brass players Better drill (with some corps) Better attention to detail in technique uniformity Much more demand placed on the performers performed at a higher level 84 man hornlines? I think yes. Cons- over narration. Like, one or two words here or there is okay, but I don't wanna hear your lifes story... or a talk show... or YOWZA electronic crutches. No need for low end synth. I understand if it is like a drone for mood, and the hornline isn't playing or something, or it is while they are playing pp and build and you can tell it is a low end synth, but at an impact, I want a natural horn sound. Please. BD seemed like the were doubling the whole chord sometimes this past year. Chopped up arrangements. Nothing makes me angrier, than chopped up musical arrangement. There are some people who don't do this, but the majority of DCI are often culprits of this. too many props. I understand one or two things, but Blue Stars 09's entire half field full of sewing machines, or BD's chairs and mirrors, just makes the field look dirty. Get rid of all those cons, and combine the pros, and you have what I would like to see in 2011.
  18. So you're saying DCI should offer a weekend only circuit and extend age limits? You just made DCA out of DCI. Go to DCA.... There are some good corps, and they're getting better every year!
  19. Yea, but I believe the statement was that you are more likely to see the meatier version at DCA finals than at DCI. Sure, DCI corps play the meaty books, but they water them down. So yea, DCI can play them, probably better, but that wasn't the argument.
  20. I'd contend that DCI is more likely to put out the watering can on finals week.
