What are some Drum Corps only Jargon

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't remember otherwise (probably), but I have a mpeg of a standstill from 1972, where the guard captain (my sister) clearly says, "Ready, two"

I meant for the military, those are the proper commands...I used "order arms" when I was SoCal Dream's DM and had someone in the guard with me at retreat ('03, mostly).

I think SCV's lead DM used "order arms" as well in 89....but he was so hyped up after finding they'd won that it was hard to read his lips....I think he was crying with joy while holding the trophy!

"Presume March" Was this a Mid west thing? I don't re-call hearing eastern corps say this.

"Gotta walk the dog" - heard at Patriot rehearsals when a member had to go to the restroom.

Not much any more...it's 5..6..5,6,7,8 or 8 on Dr. Beat or 8 on the met...

Anyone remember one-and-one's?

What's the hap's man?

I still use 'Mark time hut' and get odd looks some times...

I rarely hear 'Parade Rest' these days...

Remember when 'snap' meant to move quickly/sharpely.

Present Arms... Ready two...

 ...are these really that outdated?

I've been using those last three with my kids HS band.

libretto

Couldn't resist this and although I know Garfield was probably the first to distribute one circa 1970 - 1971, it isn't, wasn't and won't be exclusive to Drum Corp.

To wit:

The complete text of an opera, but literally the "little book" that was published for operatic audiences beginning in the 18th century so that they could read the poetry during the performance (or prepare prior to a performance).

Like g bugles, some things pre date current DCI by a bunch.
