bill
2009 Kilties: “Renaissance – La Parte Due”"The Field Show for 2009, entitled “Renaissance – La Parte Due” (Italian for "part two"), picks up where last year's program ended and continues the theme – but in a less literal sense. This allows for using not only music from that period but also features original compositions and fresh interpretation of music that was inspired by that era. The program is presented in five movements and is designed by the team of Scott Stewart, Rick Kirby, Jeff Moore, Dave Koelz and Angie Klingenmeyer." Source: http://www.kilties.com/2009.html Really nice stuff. The brass line already has 4 movements in hand with the final movement planned to be in the brass members hands in another week or so. The full percussion has over 2/3rds of the show already, and were playing playing it very well (top to bottom straight through) this past weekend at the percussion camp. Very powerful, exciting, tasty and fan friendly.
Euphscott
As we now have rights secured, Frontier can announce it's show. Frontier Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the 2009 field show entitled Pastime. The show involves the audience in childhood memories of America’s pastime and its love affair with the game as individuals grow up personally and through time. The show is an audience pleaser and designed in three distinct movements. The opening movement is based upon the Duke Ellington jazz standard “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If it Ain’t Got That Swing).” This section will have the audience tapping toes and relive the game of their youth through musical and visual cues. The middle movement is based upon “Prologue 1915-1923” and “Knock The Cover Off the Ball” by Randy Newman from the movie score “The Natural.” This portion of the show will have varied moods in portraying the growth of the game from the Golden Age of Baseball and transitioning to its mature state. The soaring theme from “The Natural” will play prominently in this movement. The final movement is an original work from Frontier’s arranger Mike Hickman. The movement will portray the moods and sounds of the “big game.” Pay special attention for audio cues that remind all of us of our experiences with the much beloved game of baseball and the major leagues. The rush of the game and crowds will culminate in a triumphant conclusion that you won’t want to miss. This summer it is drum corps and America's Pastime: Play Hard, Play Loud, Play Ball! MBIFand9891
Minnesota Brass, Inc. is proud to announce their 2009 program entitled, "Nocturne - Songs for the Night." This dark and rich program will explore various moods of the night. Earle Hagen's "Harlem Nocturne" provides the thematic backdrop for the production. Additional selections will include an edgy and mysterious take on Stan Kenton's "Commencement" as well as his "Aspect." A lush rendition of "My Immortal" from Evanescence will serve as the ballad while the intense energy of Dizzy Gillespie's, "A Night in Tunisia" is sure to bring drum corps fans to their feet. The music and expressive visual program will transport our audiences through the scariness, the sadness and the playfulness of the night. "I'm thrilled at the direction this show is taking," said Joel Matuzak, MBI Program Coordinator. "This music and concept allows us to continue to innovate in the all-age drum corps activity while presenting a vehicle that will be accesible to audiences around the country. After our remarkable 2008 season, we can't wait for 2009 to begin." In 2008, Minnesota Brass achieved their highest placement ever, securing second place at the Drum Corps Associates Championship. The creative staff from 2008 returns with: Joel Matuzak: Program Coordinator Joel Matuzak and Matt Ferry as Percussion Arrangers Matt Kettlehut and Andy Classen as Brass Arrangers Gary Swanson as Colorguard Designer. Minnesota Brass is also pleased to announce Ben Harloff and Andrew Angle as additions to our creative team.

John H
updated info for MBI: Harlem Nocturne (Earle Hagen) Commencement (Stan Kenton) Zero Hour (Astor Piazzolla) My Immortal (Evanescence) Aspect (Stan Kenton) A Night in Tunisia (Dizzy Gillespie) there are four main sections of the show, so a couple tunes are wrapped together in arrangements that are seriously cool, if I do say so myself. it's a very intense, aggressive show and we love it! SunSop66
I long for the days when corps didn't have to have a "theme." How about "We're going to play some music for you we think you folks will enjoy!" and leave it at that. grenadasmoothie
Update on Renegades: Dia de los Muertos Funeral for a Friend - Elton John Faces - Earth, Wind & Fire Death March - Traditional Mexican folk song Heat of the Day - Pat Methany One More Time Chuck Corea - Singers Unlimited OMG, OMG, OMG ! ! ! ! ! I've been dying (OK, not literally. Get it? Funeral? Dying for? I kill myself sometimes! Wait, another one? Oh, nevermind!) for somebody to do "Funeral for a Friend" again ! Last time I heard a corps play that was in, oh geez, the early 80's? Darn it! Now I might have to go to Rochester! (Or win Powerballl so we can get you guys in the Bridgeport show - They'd just eat you up!)
quegrawks
I long for the days when corps didn't have to have a "theme." How about "We're going to play some music for you we think you folks will enjoy!" and leave it at that. If the judge's agree, so will we! :-) After all, part of recruiting (especially here in TX) is being able to say that the judge's loved us and we scored well, etc. Of course, having a theme helps build cohesiveness in the show concept and the way it's put together, imo. I kind of like it, but wouldn't mind exploring some "old school" drum corps concepts :-)
