G-Rott Posted October 21, 2008 Share Posted October 21, 2008 So...I normally hate these kinds of posts because I find them way too difficult, but...my college roomate is coming down to visit in a couple weeks..Although he was never a "die hard" drum corps fan..he has liked some shows/corps. He hasn't seen any since..I would say the early 80s. I have maybe 2-3 hours to catch him up on drum corps. So I went through each year that I've actually seen, and picked one show from each Finals based on the following criteria: 1) I like it (meaning I really enjoy watching the show), 2) It's entertaining/interesting. If I ran across a year where there weren't any shows that I really enjoy watching (even if they are extremely good shows)...then I don't make a choice....This is very difficult...some years I had to eliminate shows I REALLY liked...for ones I liked just a hair better. Here's what I came up with... 1975 27th Lancers 1976 Oakland Crusaders 1977 27th Lancers 1978 Bridgemen 1979 ? 1980 Bridgemen 1981 27th Lancers 1982 Santa Clara 1983 Cadets 1984 Cadets 1985 Santa Clara 1986 Sky Ryders 1987 Sky Ryders 1988 Suncoast Sound 1989 Santa Clara 1990 Blue Devils 1991 Star 1992 Santa Clara 1993 ? 1994 Santa Clara 1995 Madison 1996 Madison 1997 ? 1998 ? 1999 Madison 2000 Boston 2001 ? 2002 Boston 2003 Phantom 2004 Crown 2005 Phantom 2006 Cadets 2007 ? 2008 Bluecoats Next...I have to make a list of my favorite show from each corps...then hopefully I will compare the lists, and some will intersect, and those will be the ones we'll watch... 08Hawkeye Posted October 21, 2008 Share Posted October 21, 2008 Well, I'm still ripe pre-1990, so I'll only comment on >1990. 93 star. duh. skip 96, 97, 98 and 99, and just show the entire 95 championships. 00 cavaliers.. 04 SCV.. come ON switch 05 and 06 no opinion 07/08. well, I take it back, no cadets. thats the only rule. Lance Posted October 21, 2008 Share Posted October 21, 2008 any of the top 3 from 93 pretty much rock as far as total packages go 97 and 98 Vanguard are good shows for highlighting the state of the art at the time, though looking at your list, they don't really seem like they'd be your cup of tea. Unfortunately...that's true...I still need to whittle it down... And the cadets 2000 with the valve thing...that is also good...just making it tougher...
