SDCA - Arena drum corps' Schedule

Recommended Posts

The introductory year of SDCA's "Arena drum corps - plus" is pleased to announce the first competitive seasons schedule.

After over a year of research, inquiring, interviewing, quizzing, developing and massaging the organizational structure Arena Drum Corps - Plus is now ready to be born. We recognize that we need to continue to review and tweak the details and conditions needed to help drum corps grow and that the organizational structure will never be completed. This is the “Plus” in our name. We hope you support and enjoy the 2009 season and want to hear from you on how we can better educate and entertain.

Thank you to the countless number of people who have contributed to this endeavor. Look at the web site www.theSDCA.org for the schedule. Ticket are usually $8.00. See you at the shows!

How long before this reaches the east coast? If I or anyone else on here can help speed up that process in any way let us know! :worthy:

It's already on the east coast in the form of MCA. I think SDCA is more the upper midwest equivalent of that.

Don't they stand still and perform on a stage?

They do perform on a stage, but standing still is optional. Xtreme Mini Corps, for example, performed a full drill in 2007.

Three of the eight corps had some type of movement in their program at the MCA Championship show in Albany this past September: Mass Brass, Golden Eagles and Ghostriders ... very creative sets for the amout of landscape they had to play with in stage size ... it will be interesting to see if "bridge" corps (those competing in both circuits) arise ... corps like Minne Brass, Erie and Steel City could be candidates ... leaders of both MCA and SDCA should definitely have a pow-wow sometime in 2009 to see where they want to take this idiom ...

Thanks Kevin. We also did drill in 2008 and will do likewise in the coming season.

there were discussions last year,.......................I emphasized that MCA was very close to the SDCA model..................yet they seemed to want to have larger units, mandatory 5 minutes of drill out of a 10 minute show,................but no judging or competition
