prodigal bari
I am not privy to the '09 budgets of the corps; but I am concerned with the instability of the world (and the Middle East/Russia in particular); IF there was a fuel spike either before summer or during the tour whether the individual corps or DCI have contingency plans in place..or budgeted at the highest diesel price? Flail away, O community of drum corps nuts (me included..)
The Brass Guy
I'm sure corps leave a little extra aside for increased gas prices.
Tom Brace
If oxygen suddenly left the planet...what contingencies to the corps have? Helmets? Yes, but how does one play a bugle in a helmet? I'm thinking Asimo corps and that's it.
Whiskey
Didn't I read somewhere that about 5 - 7 corps were going into a deal where fuel price would be set for a fixed rate regardless if the price went down or up?
MGCpimpOtimp
A lot of corps who rent buses for the summer lock in their fuel with the bus company. If the cost goes up, the company eats the difference, if it goes down, the corps eats the difference.
JamMan
Gas, food, equipment prices always change. I'm actually very impressed with the business model most corps have set up to make sure the students aren't paying the complete difference while still providing an excellent learning experience. If the cost goes up, the company eats the difference, if it goes down, the corps eats the difference. True. But that's only part of the equation. There is still the fuel cost for the other 4 to 5 vehicles on the road (i.e., equipment trailer, kitchen trailer, souvenir trailer, vans/auxiliary vehicles, box trucks, etc.). Gas prices actually were through the roof last summer, whereas, I don't recall being anaerobic at any time. So, gas going way up again is actually within the realm of possibility. So, why wouldn't a good corps director be thinking about it and maybe planning for it?

Suviduvi
So how you help with the high cost BUY SUVI STUFF from ALL CORPS, not just your favorite. Last year, there were a few shows where we did not sell enough to even cover the cost of gas to get to the show. People came in and people left empty handed. I think DCI should increase ticket prices at each show by $1.00, and split the total among all corps attending that show. 3000 people =$3000.00 divided by 6 corps, $500.00 each.
