The decision this week came after intense polling of alumni which revealed that, with two...... For those not wanting to click mutliple times to get to the story, here is the yea.org webpage directly: http://www.yea.org/site/News2?page=NewsArt...ws_iv_ctrl=1401

corpsband
This is an automated generator, it's set up to create a post whenever a news post is created, and therefore links back to the news item that caused the post's generation. Doesn't make it less annoying! Just have the automated generator dump the full text of the article (including the link?). Re-directing someone to another abbreviated source just so they can redirect again is just bad web design.
Dave
Or, it's a way to get what we want to have happen occur, which is to get people to check out parts of DCP beyond the forums.
corpsband
Or, it's a way to get what we want to have happen occur, which is to get people to check out parts of DCP beyond the forums. Do you really think multiple-click thru's encourage people to explore the rest of DCP? I understand your intent but did you never notice people posting the "real" link one or two messages down in virtually every post by the bot? Clearly your intent and end-users perceptions are misaligned; bumping hits on the DCP front page by linking to empty content (which just links to yet another page) is NOT going to get anyone to "use" the other parts of DCP. It may drive the stats up but it's just going to annoy end-users (which is ALWAYS a bad thing). Edited March 10, 2009 by corpsband

MikeN
I understand - it is something we're aware of and working on. No problema. Mike
Geoff
Mike sorry, didn't mean for this to sound as bad as it did. It's just a tad bit frustrating with all of the click through's. 2 click throughs. 5 seconds. Really that frustrating?
