tympmom
going towards downtown on East Ave are alot of of clubs, starting @ Alexander Street---further down Stromboli's for pizza and bolis, Alexandria's for Mediterrainen(sp) food, across the street Golden Port Dim Sum Chinese and House of Sushi next door. Temple Bar and Grill. Matthew's East End Grill also on East Ave. Around the corner on Gibbs Street is Java's--coffee place with sandwiches, cookies, pies, cake and pastries. (It is next to our wonderful Eastman Theater and Eastman School of Music.) across from Java's is Center Stage Cafe. You are not far from Rochester Museum and Science Center, Strasenburg Planetarium, George Eastman House---these are close to your hotel. They probably will have brochures in hotel lobby but if you need to eat late go away from downtown past museum and farther down you will find Mickey D's, Wegman's Grocery store (OPEN 24 HOURS), Dunkin Donuts, Country Club Diner, Wendy's and next to them is DiBella's Subs. Hope this helps, I used to work in the area so I know where things are. (Not that you would need it but next to Dunkin Donuts is East Ave Liquor.) Peggly43
Rochester is on Lake Ontario, the Rochester harbor has some shops and great scenery, just a few miles from downtown. The Eastmen house is a great historic building which features displays on the movie industry as well as the camera, it is locate on East Ave. There is an amusement park called Seabreeze which is in Charlotte again not far from downtown. This park is especially cool for young ones. Finger Lakes racetrack and casino is about 10 miles East of Rochester a very easy trip. For a relaxing afernoon, go down to the Raddison and walk the river walk,. Eastview and Market Place Malls, are huge and offer many interesting shops and retaurants. They are both within minutes of downtown. A favorite of many outrsiders is to spend an hour in Wegmens Super Market, this chain was started in Rochester and voted the number one grocery chain in the U. S. They have a different approach in Marketing. If you want to take a day, the Finger Lakes wine country is with in miles, the wine tours are relaxing and a cheap price for a days entertainment. Food and clubbing well everyone else will surely tell you the places to go.

ContraBrad
My Suggestion for anyone looking for 'what's up' in Rochester should check out the 'RocWiki' RocWiki is a great site made by the community, and is fairly comprehensive about what Rochester has to offer. http://rocwiki.org
dbriggs
Hey so I am originally from upstate New York and the last time i went to Rochester Kodak was in full swing and it was the bowling capitol of the world ( My parents always went there for tournaments).. I am so looking forward to getting back to visiting friends and family ( first trip back since 1985) . I was just curious if someone has time what are the good places to eat, and interesting or fun things to do in that town? for eats, don't forget Nick Tahoe's. original at Main & Broad. the second has changed names due to family squabbles; it's now Steve T's. still the same, tho; on Lyell just west of 390. since you're from here, you know a lot of the sights. but when out-of-towners come, I usually show them Genesee River stuff - High Falls, just N of the Inner Loop, behind WXXI bldg; the footbridge between Maplewood Pk and Seneca Pk zoo (St Paul St), just N of 104; the old Aqueduct that carried the Erie Canal over the river before it (the canal) was moved out of the city (under Broad St and the library towards Dino BBQ) has a small viewing stand off the Blue Cross Arena terrace. in Genesee Valley Park, the (n/s)river and (e/w)canal intersect; a phenomenon that prolly doesn't happen too many places in the country the drive between Sea Breeze and Char-LOTTE (we pronounce things weird here) along Lakeshore Blvd provides one of the few decent views of Lake Ontario (watch your speed - trap area) Edited August 4, 2009 by dbriggs

ereese
is the loop still all ripped up? Construction continues through downtown on 490 (east/west between 390 and 590). However, it's not as bad as last year IMO. I drive it everyday and it's not bad.
