First gig

This is the first performance ever, by a corps you should know. As we say in the senior forum, Guess Who ???

Hey Ken, just a W.A.G., but based on the blouses on the guard (very similar to the corps first unis that I remember) and what I think are stripes on the drums, I would say Santa Clara Vanguard.

Am I close???

Gee Kenny, when you open the picture up to get a closer look, it is titled:

I marched with many of the original members so let's see. I believe that the soprano just to the right of the rifle is Dan Vanatta. The french horn directly in front of him is Dan Smith. I'm sure I know more but the picture isn't that clear.

Welcome to drum corps planet.

May have met Dan Smith at a contest early 80's.

Didn't know he played french horn. I like the horn and mello sound.

Perhaps HornsUp can re-scan with descreen option and retain photo size as is :-)

Well what do you know,,I took this picture when I was 17 years old and uploaded on my facebook page 42 years later and find it here...This photo was taken in 1967 at San Pablo Calif. for a standstill performance..I was in the Commodores at the time and heard that our corp director Gene Castles loaned Gail Royer $500 dollars towards purchasing some horns...Well I guess it's the best investment the Stockton Commodores ever did...These cats looked so cool in thier suits...
