Okie dokie....let's give this a try. For fun.

I only started with the 70s, and I'll give it a day or two before I move on to the next decade afterwards. Anyway, the rules are simple enough: just pick one vote each.

And it looks like it's time to whip out The Fan Network to refresh some memory (or educate yourself, like me)....have fun!

brass is 75 Madison...say what you want about G brass, they were loud, clean and in tune.

guard...79 27th. George was asserting his genius

percussion...79 SCV. Fred at his best. he got his licks in, which still counted then, but for that era so musical.

Brass- I picked Madison 75 razor thin over Blue Devils 76. Blue Devils brought a whole new musicality to drum corps with their great arrangements and mid voices. But, Madison 75 was the first corps to give me chills.

Percussion- I picked SCV 79 for one reason. They barely beat North Star.

Guard- 27th Lancers 79, I can see those black, yellow and red flags spinning in unison now.

Brass....76 Devils (purer than 75 Scouts by a tiny bit)

Guard... 79 27th Lancers (easy one)

Percussion...74 SCV (whole new concept to drumming)

So far, it looks like 1975 Madison Scouts take the lead for brass, 1979 27th Lancers take a monster lead in guard, and 1979 Santa Clara Vanguard takes a lead for percussion. Thanks for voting guys!

I am opening up a new poll soon for the 1980s....in the meantime, voting shall continue (as always).

You really have had to be alive during this area to fully appreciate the sights and sounds of drum and bugle corps in the 70's.
