wturner901
The only thing I dislike about Dynasty is how everything is so FLIPPING HEAVY. Lifting Dynasty Marimbas onto a budget truck in '09 wasn't fun. As for the snare drum sound... to me, even as a snare drummer, it's going to sound really high, obnoxious, and loud no matter what company created the drum. I don't think the snares sound like garbage. If your snares sound like crap, either the line is dirty or you must stink at tuning Edited August 23, 2010 by wturner901
DanjrusMcRynky
.....and yet the last 2 DCI drum trophies were won on Dynasty. Actually....the last 4. (BD 07, Phantom 08, BD 09, Phantom 10)

doylejd
I think the use of Dynasty drums for DCI is on the decline, though they have a huge lead in WGI that probably won't be going anywhere. Just look at this breakdown of what different world class corps were using this year (via SnareScience): World Class: The Academy- Mapex, Vic Firth, Remo Blue Devils- Pearl, Promark, Evans Bluecoats- Yamaha, Innovative Percussion, Evans Blue Knights- Pearl, Vic Firth, Remo Blue Stars- Pearl, Vic Firth, Remo Boston Crusaders- Pearl, Vic Firth, Remo The Cadets- Yamaha, Vic Firth, Remo Carolina Crown- Yamaha, Vic Firth, Remo Cascades- Pearl, Promark, Remo The Cavaliers- Yamaha, Innovative Percussion, Remo Colts- Yamaha, Innovative Percussion, Evans Crossmen- Yamaha, Innovative Percussion, Evans Glassmen- Dynasty, Innovative Percussion, Remo Jersey Surf- Mapex, Vic Firth, Remo Madison Scouts- Yamaha, Vic Firth, Remo Mandarins- Pearl, Vic Firth, Remo Pacific Crest- Dynasty, Vic Firth, Remo Phantom Regiment- Dynasty, Innovative Percussion, Remo Pioneer- Mapex, Promark, Evans Santa Clara Vanguard- Pearl, Vic Firth, Remo Spirit- Pearl, Innovative Percussion, Evans Teal Sound- Mapex, Promark, Remo Troopers- Pearl, Innovative Percussion, Evans There are only 3 World Class groups who currently use Dynasty. Mapex, who just busted out on the marching scene two years ago has more WC Corps using their product. People want the warm tone and projection that come from these other companies, and if Dynasty doesn't get with it, the indoor market will be all they have pretty soon. JamMan
Except, when tuned by the Phantom Regiment drum staff. I don't know their secret but that is the only Dynasty line I think sounds decent. Still not as good as the average Pearl maple line, and nowhere near as good as the DCI Yamaha lines. Check out the Spartans as well. Another great tuning of Dynasty snares. drumguy76
How about they sound like utter garbage? The difference in the sound of Blue Devils drumline this year with Pearl's compared to last year is orders of magnitude better. Really ? Utter garbage? I am a music educator in Texas and have used everyones gear. Everybody makes pretty great stuff but utter garbage is a ridiculous statement. Phantom has sounded amazing every since coming on board with Dynasty. The drums are 100% American maple. They are the only company to use 100% american maple with no filler plys. I did have Pearl at my high school before switching two years ago to Dynasty and I have been very happy. Just like most drums you can get anything to sound good if you tune the drum. I thought Blue Devils sounded amazing with the Dynasty stuff last year. Really did not sound like the typical BD high top head/boxy sound they have had for years. Maybe it was switching to the Evans heads last year I don't know but they sounded great. I think there are just not enough Dynasty groups to sample from out there right now. The drums are amazingly durable. . . built right here and when I did need a couple of things this summer I talked to the guy who was the VP of the company ! Three days later it was in my mailbox along with some stickers for my kids. I am not bashing any other company here but Pearl and Yamaha have been out there for a ton of years and have much more exposure.Dynasty has only been making drums for around ten years ( I think) but they are making a huge impact right now. Go listen to some HS groups or University groups that use Dynasty like Centerville HS , Marion Catholic HS, or University of South Carolina ( My alma matter) and they just switched from Pearl and could not be happier from what they tell me.
