soon you will be able to see the DCPI Times on the official DCPI website, but until then here is a peek at our first return article!

DCPI Times

Welcome to another season of DCPI and the reemergence of the DCPI Times! For those of you not familiar the DCPI Times is basically the news from around DCPI. We primarily focus on Division 1 or World Class but we welcome guest writers interested in focusing on specific shows or divisions.

We are just over a week into our season 16 tour and what a wild ride it has been! This is sure shaking up to be one heck of a season! No one corps seems to be dominating the early going and we have a large mix between the old standard barers and some up and coming corps!

In the Midwest after some intro shows on June 18th we had some great Fathers Day specials! In Rockford it was Caprice just edging out Confederate Regiment who had won the day before in Oswego! Polaris Regiment took a step up from fourth to third. Caprice made a statement with a strong GE show but was equally as strong in visual captions. Out of the three Polaris was strongest on music, but it was Mercury Imperials who bested everyone in the music captions.

In Racine on Friday Crimson Lions who had been creeping up all week for the pounce bested the field by nearly two full points! GE and Music performance were their strong points for sure and made a statement that they will be an early season favorite! Confederate Regiment (2nd) barely held off a surge from Minnesota Madness!

The Midwest finished off in drum corps paradise, Madison WI. Crimson Lions showed their win was no fluke as they took down all of the big Midwestern powerhouses including Quiksilver who has been having a great early season and Polaris Regiment who is always in the thick of the hunt. Confederate Regiment, Caprice and Minnesota Madness slipped back a bit, but certainly were not out of it. Crimson Lions dominated both GE and music while Quiksilver showed their strength in visual.

In the South the big show was Orlando and the Southern Star Cup. This show isn’t usually a kick off event but in an attempt to boost early season numbers, this was moved right to the front. Quiksilver who finished up strong in the Midwest, started off in the deep south and won the Southern Star Cup. Host Star of Jupiter was nearly a point and a half behind in second with Minnesota Madness picking up third.

Salem VA had a bunch of corps in the south that were not at the Southern Star Cup. Purple Mountain Majesty, a new corps, pounded the competition by nearly two full points. The Knights started off slow but still managed a solid second. Lake Ontario Crusaders were just behind in third. The very next night almost the same corps and same placements but the Knights made up huge ground and jumped to within just tenths of Majesty!

In Myrtle Beach SC The Knights continued to improve along with the Avengers, but it wasn’t enough to take Quiksilver who was on a southern tour stomp! Avengers took both Music and GE, but Knights and Quiksilver made up for it in the visual captions.

The week was finished out in the south in Murfreesboro where home crowd favorite shocked everyone and jumped up to first place. They barely edged the Knights and Avengers who seem to be neck and neck with Knights of Power starting to make some moves as well. However no one could beat the returning Tennessee Nipples who had a solid across the board finish in first.

The East only really had one big show this week in the drum corps Mecca of Allentown!

Purple Mountain Majesty was able to take Light Brigade by the slimmest of margins, .015! Light Brigade impressed the most with a GE dazzler, but Majesty pulled off their win in music performance! Buffalo Sabres got third.

The West was won by Crimson Eagle Regiment at the first show in Stockton CA. They soared ahead of the competition by nearly four points! However they didn’t have much in way of competition most of the week. Come Thursday the west coast corps started coming out to play and they dropped to third with California Knights and Elite Brigade overtaking them in the only real big show of the week.

Internationally the Stud Bolts seem to never want to return to the US as they do a victory lap around the world. This week they dominated Scotland and the UK as their nearest competition was their own The Screws. It looks like they will finally get some competition this week in way of the Feenicks and Crimson Eagle Regiment.

In the coming week the East gets a little more attention as the tour swings through New England and ends in the ever popular Montreal show hosted by Les Blanc Chevalier. The show seems to be a little smaller this year with some other big weekend competition, but it promises to be one heck of a show still. In international competition we will swing around Europe and end in Germany. The Southern tour goes through South Carolina with a big show in Fort Mill, but then many of the corps break off for the week and a much smaller show finishes in New Orleans. Out west we go through Arizona, Idaho and Wyoming finishing up in Colorado. But the must be location of the week seems to be the Midwest which culminates with the show of the week, The Fanfare Championship! As one of the premier organizations within DCPI, the Fanfare Championships is always one of the shows the big boys come out to win! Arguably one of the most important non-DCPI sponsored shows of the season, this is one true fans will not want to miss. Right now the Crimson Lions who are on top of the leader board are the favorite to win, but a lot can change in one week! Quiksilver is just tenths behind them currently and certainly could upset the apple cart. The Elite Brigade has had some early success and their trip to the Midwest could pay off big as well. But don’t count out the current champs as the Stud Bolts planes hit the runway from the international tour and they come back to the US in a big way! Could we have some dark horses as well? You betchya! Polaris Regiment will likely start putting on the heat as well as Knights of Power and Star of Jupiter. Mercury Imperials are still in top 12, where will they be come weeks end? All this comes to an exciting week and conclusion in DCPI!!!
