Fred Sanford Percussion Trophy

Recommended Posts

That's right, I had observed that when I read the scores. I would love to see some of that Oakland footage, if any exists. They sound like quite the legendary drumline!

Trust us, people are looking. As far as I know, no one has turned up any video footage yet. There's a Canadian Nationals telecast video that has turned up for '78, but not '77 (as far as I know).

John Swartz ("Sarnia Sam") has made an interesting observation here on DCP. He marched in Oakland's drum line in both '77 and '78 and feels that the '78 line was actually better, even though the scores don't reflect it. Granted, we didn't have Tom Float working with the line in '78; by that time, he had moved on to Spirit. But the talent in that '78 line was second to none, and their dedication -- along with some nice percussion arrangements -- really made that drum line special.

Well why don't we sticky these things? Don't know what makes something sticky-worthy...
