84BDsop
THANKS FOR SHARING, DAVE! Oh. but in order to worry about the strap, first you had to get the sucker (I mean shako!)on your head! Yeah.....but his fro looks like it'd hold the shako on like it was bolted to his head!
CuriousMe
REAL shakos were made with a wire or wicker frame and could breathe through the covering fabric, and also often had air vents. There were available in conventional diametrical hat sizes, incremented in 1/8ths. Today's shakos are built over a plastic pot, with NO ventilation. And they are available in only a few generic sizes S M L XL. Genuine shakos fit much better, and stayed put. Plastic shakos flop all over the place, hence the chinstrap is worn Dork-o style. There's a laced lining which is adjustable inside the "plastic pot" which is what you adjust to keep the shako on your head. It might be that the old style fit better, but my shako stayed put just fine!
bluecoats88
We in the bluecoats drumline used to chew on our chain during all shows. in 1987 we came off the field and our center snare had to lengths of chain dangling on either side of his head, and about 3 links in his mouth that he has chewed through during the performance. I don't know if they still chew the chain or note, but I'll tell you chewing on metal during an 11 minute show probably wasn't the smartest thing we ever did. flugelswerebugels
Why do I have a feeling these Detroit Party Marching Band shakos (worn dork style) used to belong to a drum corps?
DPEmerald
Why do I have a feeling these Detroit Party Marching Band shakos (worn dork style) used to belong to a drum corps? Here is a shot of BOTH styles (check out the contra in the back). BTW, the soloist is one of drum corps most famous alums, as well as a current day supporter and staff member for Bones.
