Best Closer Ever?

Recommended Posts

Great Gate of Kiev? there must have been some corps that did that. I know my hometown corps did (Enfield Centurions), but a corps more well-known?

see corpsreps.com

I do know it was done by a "big shot". I do not know that it was or wasn't a closer

Best closer 'ever'?

Only if someone's drum corps knowledge only extends to "last week'.

Santa Clara Vanguard played Great Gate of Kiev in 86/87.

And I would say to those who feel ESOM is mediocre...you simply

have to see it live. The videos do not even come close to doing it justice.

It's a very powerful and emotional closer!

And I wouldn't say that it's best closer in 30 years either, because how can

you judge something like that. But I will say it's one of MY top 5

favorites of the last 20 years.

Yep some corps did that. They were reasonably competitive with it. :)

My favorie is The Tender Land - 1984 SCV.

I think it was an awesome song to integrate into their show, and it does play with my heartstrings, but if you don't know the words to the song, you might be lost... but it's great music.

I just fear that it might sound a little "college bandy" if they aren't careful... but I loved it when I saw it.

I don't know the words and I love it...but I will Youtube it.

No offense, but if you aged out in 2010, MOST of the realy good closers were done before you were born.

(Yeah....that's me....dinosaur!)

Let It Be Me

Ice Castles

The Way We Were

It Was Almost Like a Song

Danny Boy

Greensleeves

Russian Christmas Music

Conquest

Appalachian Spring

Bottle Dance

Ole'

Dindi

Even Now

We Are the Reason

Come in from the Rain

Send in the Clowns

...and the list goes on

I'll see Madison live for the first time tomorrow so I'll be able to make a better judgement of the OP's post.

That being said...gonna have to agree with the above statement whole heartedly.

Too many people seem to think the last 10 years = Drum Corps, anything before that was something else...What they forget is, just because the drill wasn't as awesome as it is now and some of the dynamics are better (among other things), doesn't necessarily mean the music is better.

I have heard it live 2 times now - I have felt the same way both times - taken away. I didn't analyze the piece either time - I just let it do what it was intended to do.

Not sure of it's ranking but it does live up to its promuise to move you.
