New & Retruning Corps

Recommended Posts

Anyone have word about the "Rocketeers" from Alabama?

The plan from the beginning is to form a solid membership based corps and go from there. Most likely a mini corps for 2012.

I'm holding out for a Ballantine Brewers revival...

I can see it in my head..."Ballantine...the official beer of DCA".

Does anyone know if Music City Legend is planning to return to the field?

Now that I am no longer a point man for DCA and very much out of the loop information wise... I join the rest of you in relying on DCP for timely updates. This is an interesting thread (despite the mispelling in the heading) and should be taken seriously. So far, we have identified several corps who at least for now plan on competing in Annapolis 2012.

I would ask a few things - call them guidelines for this thread:

1. Let's put the levity elsewhere. While I have judged the blousemen (I'd tell you where but then Donny A. would have to shoot you), let's not confuse this thread with delightful fantasy.

2. Those who post a corps should have enough knowledge to state whether the corps' intent "wishful thinking though it may be" for 2012 is All Aged Competitive, mini corps, junior corps or alumni type exhibition corps. It is my belief that the creator of this thread intended it to be DCA all aged competitive. We're all still hoping to see a coninued growth in DCA prelims and I for one, see Annapolis as a huge opportunity...

3. Don't tease... if you don't know, don't post or at least don't post as if you KNOW what a corps is doing... ask the question if you don't... as the person just did with Music City Legend... a very good question.

4. Some unofficial sage advice from a retired warrior in this arena: It's mid-November first camp time already. Over the next 3 weeks, most competing corps will have their first camp. If you have even the slightest possibility of sending a competing corps to DCA prelims... you ought to know by now... If you don't know, you're probably talking 2013 at a minimum. There are steps to follow that take time. Hotels are already booked for most corps. If you're thinking of bringing a corps and haven't been in touch with dca - you should correct that NOW. The name you need to know is Dick Eschenman, DCA Business Manager. businessmanager@dcacorps.org should work fine.

Thanks... it will be fun to see if DCA can approach that elusive 30 corps in prelims mark.

Oh and.... buy my book and help support my trip to Annapolis...

Excellent point.

The days of pulling a corps together by the old "seat of the pants" method and fielding a reasonably competitive unit on short notice are pretty much gone.

Thank You Tom. I was thinking the same things about what some people were posting.

I asked a Question, and then got my answer.

Now lets HOPE that the List of "Newbies" in DCA can grow into one of the Biggest Ever.

(And Thank you Tom, for All You Have done for DCA!)

Well, kids, there's another new corps way up here in the Northwest.

The great organization, The Seattle Cascades, and their Parent Organization have announced the formation of a new corps in the Vancouver, WA area. Yes, that's the area of the old Vancouver Spartans! With a rich history of Drum Corps ahead of it, the NYMA is helping bring drum corps back. Following is from their webpage: http://www.nwyouthmusic.org/

Please wish them good luck! We need all of the new Drum Corps we can, especially here in the Northwest!!

*** New Drum Corps in Vancouver, WA! ***

We are starting a new Drum Corps in Vancouver, Washington.

We will be having our first Walk On Weekends (W.O.W.) on November 19th and December 3rd. We are finalizing the location of the WOW and will be announcing it shortly. The WOW is tentatively scheduled from 9am-9pm with a lunch break at 12pm and dinner break at 4pm. Can't attend our WOW on the 19th, that's OK! We will have our second opportunity on the 3rd of December. Stay tuned...

What is a W.O.W.? It's your opportunity to experience drum corps in the Northwest! We will be going over exercises and techniques in both marching and playing, and will start to dive in to our 2012 show.

This new Drum Corps will be competing in Drum Corps International's Northwest tour and at the Califoria Open Class Championships, as well as performing at events in the Vancouver-Portland area.

Tuition and fees will be kept to an economic level.

Students are welcome from middle schools, high schools, and college.

There will be a $20 fee charged for the WOW to help cover admin costs.

We will also be holding a parent Q&A after introductions on Saturday morning and will also have a show and tell at the end of the night about 7:30pm

We will be updating this website with exercises and items you will need to prepare yourself for a productive WOW. We will not be doing a formal audition or one-on-one auditions and the WOW will be in a full ensemble format. Keep checking the website for updates all the way until the 19th!

If any immediate questions, please contact Dan Perry at danp8161@yahoo.com or 971-998-5234.

What to bring

* Lunch & Dinner - we will not be able to provide food for this event

* Instrument - please bring an instrument as we will have some, but won't have 14 snare drums to go around

* $20.00 - there will be a $20 fee charged for the W.O.W. to help cover admin costs

* Bring a friend. Ot two! The more that are here, the better the experience

* We will be doing some marching basics so plan to bring athletic clothes that you can march in

RedHeadedSop:

This is big news! Please consider posting this as a New Topic to help attract more attention to Dan's efforts.

Thanks,

I agree... it should have its own thread - but the thread should be on the DCI boards... not DCA... Cascades/NWYM clearly calls the corps Cascades B corps. They would appear to be following the blue devil/scv method....

FANTASTIC idea... I wish them the best... fantastic drum corps people...
