Madison Scouts 2012

  • 2 weeks later...

I was able to make it to their ensemble rehearsal yesterday...WOOOOOWWWWW!!! I knew Robert W. Smith could compose great music...this will POSITIVELY be a historic season for the Scouts. Of course, I am a homer and love the Scouts, but I truly enjoy the level at which other corps play as well. Honestly, last year it took me a bit to get to the point where I really enjoyed the music. This year, however, they grab you from the first few notes. Talk about "Wall of Sound"!!! The music is so intelligently written...it takes your ear on a journey from one gorgeous line to the next. So many details you can focus on and fall in love with. Pictures on an Exhibition has DEFINITELY been "Madisonized" in an amazing way. If you can't stand the Scouts, prepare to fall in love with them this year. They're absolutely ready to mop up some top corps in the aspect of brass. All sections contribute equally to the "wall". Screamers...check, check, check, check, check, check, check. Battery has notes on top of notes and are executing at an pretty impressive level. I can't wait to see the visual package associated with it. Some of the men were saying that Smith said they won't be below 120bpm on the field. Plans change all the time...who knows. I know the term "hype" exists, but my comments about this weekend don't do those gentleman justice. Over 4:00 of completely memorized music that they received last week...not a dip in energy. It's January folks. Appreciate your face while you still have it.

Somebody has to have a snippit of this horn line... hint hint!

I am glad I am not the only one. There has to be more fans that would like to see(hear) a snippet, ya think?

Our plans this year are,

Madison with the wife

Whitewater with the family

DCI Minn. with Eraserhead

Quarters and Semi-Finals with TJ/ year 2 of a 3 year experience!

all shows subject to change... haha!

See ya this summer, slick!

Man, that's gonna be a good summer! I'm doing a mural for Andy Davis over in Richland

Center sometime in June or July, so I'm driving back there again. I'm hoping that will

allow my a solid 3-4 weeks in Wisconsin...maybe 4-5 shows in there, including Drums on Parade and Cedarburg...maybe Minnesota. I'll probably see you there Bro!

:peek:

I do not have a recording of camp or anything like that but a little birdy did tell me that a small chunk of a very popular Madison hit from days past makes a "framed appearance" in the opener. The person I heard this from did not offer which tune it was. But.....

Purely hearsay at the moment. I cannot confirm or deny the info. This "birdy" could have been just playing mind games on me for all I know. I guess time will tell.

Just watched some great drum corps (1975 and 1999 DCI), including "Men from Madison." I'm a sucker for some of the vintage, perhaps to some corny but for me, always classic Madison touches. As I saw the famous bowing and tipping the hat by the rifle line in 1975 "Way We Were", I was thinking, this would be perfect as part of "The Great Gate at Kiev" finale of "Pictures at an Exhibition." Just a thought, and eth crowd would go wild, wait, the crowd will go wild anyway. We are talking about Madison!

Ok here is what I absolutely DO know. The show title "REframed" actually means something. If the rumors I'm hearing are true, the surprises that are in this show are going to make some jaws drop. This is not just another straight forward "Pictures At An Exhibition" show. Other than that, all I have is hearsay and speculation so I will stick with.....     ....for now.

Sounds like a potentially great show! I like it when they surprise me!
