NEW DCI Board of Directors

Recommended Posts

Keep in mind that once the secret, behind closed doors, G7 scheme proposal became public an emergency DCI meeting was quickly convened by DCI membership and a recall of the DCI Executive Board was voted on, and replacements on the DCI Executive Board took place. Some of the replaced DCI Executive Board members were not about to put their names back into the mix for considersation this year. Their chances of being favorably voted back in this year by Membership were most likely slim to none. So its really not that difficult to grasp why the DCI membership at large voted to return many of the DCI Executive Board members from last year back again this year. The current DCI xecutive Board did a magnificent job in a time of potential attempts at financial extortion, divisivness, and potential revolt in holding DCI together, imo.

Yup. And I agree.

Now we can get stuff done without certain egos that are impossible to reason with.

Oh I know one who probably definitely put his name in. He won't stop putting his name in. Because woodwinds are going to save DCI.

Hey... it was out of his own mouth. Not really bashing the guy when I'm just repeating what he says.

...secret, behind closed doors... as a reminder, please, we're in this because we love the activity :)

Exactly. There should be no place in DCI for a handful of influential DCI people to get together in secret and behind closed doors and to ( among other selfish despicable things proposed ) call for the elimination of dozens of Drum Corps. While the original Founders of DCI were by no means perfect or error free in their blueprint for a new DCI, there was never an attempt to initiate a plan to eliminate some Drum Corps altogether. Such a proposal would have been immediately repudiated by every Corps Director (and everyone else for that matter) at the time of the founding of DCI.

They were smart business people. The original Founders were folks around a kitchen table with a telephone talking and promoting drum corps because they saw the good it does.

There is a HUGE difference between putting in force initiatives that could potentially lead to the loss of Corps, and proposing an initiative, that if adopted, would instantly and immediately end that Drum Corps right in its tracks. The G7 initial proposal called for the elimination of their membership and thus their ability to compete anywhere in a DCI competition. If the proposal was adopted, that Corps was dead instantly. The Founders of DCI put in place initiatives that would benefit themselves, and they believed the activity itself. There is a difference between putting in place policies that in hindsight may have been done differently. The loss of Corps did take place. But to suggest that their motives were to eliminate other Corps demonstrates to me that you are simply ill informed on the motives of the Founders of DCI. The G7 proposal called for the immediate expulsion and financial support of a Dozen Drum Corps. There was NEVER such a proposal or thought by any of the DCI Founders along these lines. NO drum Corps was denied membership in DCI by the founders. No proposal to call for the immediaste expulsion from membership a dozen Corps took place. Period.

Well, they are misinformed as well. I suspect they reallty wern't there at the time at all, and so their comparison with the motives of the Founders of DCI and the motives of the handful of G7 architects as one and the same is nonsense. Thats because the Founders of DCI would never have supported any proposal to immediately eliminate a dozen Drum Corps. I know this for a fact. So I don't really care what somebody might've told you. Thats because anybody that tells you differently is just wrong about this.
