fsubone
Can we get him to judge a show? Would be interesting to see how a real music critic sees the music books presented.
saxfreq1128
Seconded. I have a weak spot for the New Yorker, anyway . . .aside from Ross' stuff, it's how I picked up on Susan Orlean and David Rakoff. Was thinking the same. The New Yorker's music criticism has always been great because they cover such a range of musical styles -- everything from long articles on K-Pop and Rihanna to Schoenberg and the like. But it never occurred to me to see NYer writers touching on drum corps. Awesome.

I would love to read a more in depth analysis from Ross regarding his opinions on arrnaging, designers mixing modern music with classical or even pops, music arranging accommodating visual demand possibly with the focus on visual at the expense of musical ideas, etc. Also interesting that he kind of seemingly lumps DCI/drum corps with scholastic marching bands: I wonder if he sees it more as a vehicle for educating the audience/students & members on music literature vs any sort of showcase for the arts.
