shmahan
For years this was such a premium show. The first show in Texas with a usual stellar lineup and a responsive crowd. For the past couple of years it has gotten a rotten placement- the Tuesday after San Antonio and an okay lineup but no one in the top three. On the other hand the Denton show had a top tier lineup on what used to be the Lake Highlands day. Last two years such a miserable turnout compared to the history of this show. Can someone who is smarter to me explain why this show has been gutted over the last couple of years. Also DCI calls Denton DCI North Dallas. What a joke. Would you call the Meadowlands show DCI North Philadelphia?
rchammar
Sorry to hear about the show there but your last comment made me chuckle when I considered that no they might call the Meadowlands show DCI North Allentown if they could. skywhopper
For years this was such a premium show. The first show in Texas with a usual stellar lineup and a responsive crowd. For the past couple of years it has gotten a rotten placement- the Tuesday after San Antonio and an okay lineup but no one in the top three The TOC means that between 12 and 18 non-TOC shows each year are missing top-8 (or this year, top-6-plus-cavies) corps that would otherwise have been on the schedule. Would you call the Meadowlands show DCI North Philadelphia? Lineup and cost for the show in Texas that you are complaining about : S.C. Vanguard Bluecoats Blue Knights Crossmen Academy Jersey Surf........... customer cost for 6 DCI Corps, $ $30-$50 Lineup for Lawrence, Ma. show, August 1st Boston Crusaders Madison Scouts Cadets Crossmen...............customer cost for 4 DCI Corps $30-$40 I'd say its pretty comparable in overall value, and nobody is complaining in Massachusetts. Also, the state of Texas this summer will have 5 DCI shows, one a Regional with every Corps present. The state of New York by contrast will have just 2 DCI shows. One of the NY DCI shows will have just one... one... DCI Finalist Corps from 2012 in that NY show. The other show in Buffalo is a TOC show. I think overall the State of Texas is doing quite well for what DCI fans in Texas can see in both shows as well as the number of Corps that they will get to see live. They get to see pretty much the full lineup of DCI World Class Division Corps live this summer, and have for a few years now. So I'm really not getting your complaining. shmahan
Based on the history of this show its getting the short end of the Texas stick. The lineup is good it's just for two shows in a week in what is technically the same metropolitan area you have the second show with a six corps lineup with three corps that were at the Denton show the other night. shmahan
Given that however, through four corps this seems to be a lot more enjoyable show. Less humidity is giving a sharper sound and the Corps seem a lot more on than the Denton show.

Good show history, cramped stadium in a congested area. Isn't the Denton facility a good bit larger? They can sell more tickets to the north, but at least they haven't totally abandoned Lake Highlands. The band parents have always done a good job running the event there.

Denton definitely has the better venue, IMO. (But I certainly have fond memories of Lake Highlands.)
skajerk
The Dallas show used to work in tandem with the Houston show before the ToC concept came about. It was a 2 night lineup consisting of all... I repeat ALL the WC corps. The 4 shows would then set the lineup for the SA regional. In 2011, DCI went to the ToC concept in Houston which lasted 2 years. This past year, Houston became a "local" show. The Good news? The price of tickets, $25-45.00, hasn't changed since '09. The bad news? The amount of corps participating has. Here was the lineup for the Houston/Dallas shows in '09. The corps would switch cities the next night. Houston: Thursday, July 16 Holy Name Cadets Carolina Crown Blue Stars Phantom Regiment Boston Crusaders Glassmen Spirit Crossmen Pacific Crest Mandarins Dallas: Thursday, July 16 Blue Devils The Cavaliers Santa Clara Vanguard Bluecoats Blue Knights Colts Troopers Madison Scouts The Academy Pioneer Cascades Edited July 24, 2013 by skajerk
