O.C. Standings 2016

I won't count Genesis out. They are very good and I hope they come out to play.

One great move they made in their Minnesota show was replacing the adult voice they'd used earlier in the season.

Guardians jump right in and land at sixth place. How will they fare against Genesis and Louisiana Stars in direct competition in San Antonio on Saturday? Also on Saturday, our final corps to appear this season, Stentors, debut in Manchester, where we'll see how Legends stacks up against the Northeast competitors.

I would say that Genesis outplayed 5 of the World Class corps, from a brass standpoint, last night. Great job Genesis. Intonation and articulation/releases was on point.

Sorry for the delay. I only just finished watching San Antonio 15 min. ago, and hadn't had dinner yet. Let's see . . .

Next shows: Lafayette and Dallas on July 25.

With Les Stentors now in the mix, every Open Class corps at last has a score. BDB still holds the top spot, almost a week after they last performed, but Genesis and Legends have squeezed in ahead of SCVC, with Spartans nipping at their heels. The top ten shown above, including 7th Regiment, Guardians, and Louisiana Stars, who also competed this evening, all look to be locks for O.C. Finals. Which two other corps will join them? We'll start to get a better feel for that next Friday, when the Open Class tour begins. That's also the first time that Genesis faces off against Blue Devils B and Vanguard Cadets, so it will be a very telling evening.

The hit in the middle of Louisiana Stars' ballad is very loud.

Raiders had an exhibition performance today at the DCA show hosted by the Bushwackers in Woodbridge, NJ (at which Fusion Core edged out the Hawthorne Caballeros for the all-age win). The first and only competition so far for Raiders this year was back on July 1. At that time they were 6.55 pts. behind the Spartans. If they've made good use of the time since then and can maintain or even tighten that gap, their score now would be 56.65, just a point behind Louisiana Stars in eleventh place overall. That's something else we'll have a better sense of come Friday, when Raiders and Spartans are among the corps competing in Sheffield.

I went to Manchester last night. Show was interrupted for an hour due to heavy rain, thunder and lightning, high winds, hail, and a tornado warning!

Thoughts on the competing corps:

Les Stentors: first show of the season. Guard is better this year, drum line appears larger, brass smaller. Their show is a bit more ambitious this year and they love performing.

7th Regiment: I agreed with the third place position but thought they were more evenly matched with Legends and Spartans than the scored revealed. They have added quite a bit of body movement and added some electronic enhancement. They have a strong opening and closing but mid section needs some work.

Legends: people loved this show, especially when shakos light up. Their show is a bit heavy in regards to electronics though it fits the theme. This is probably the strongest show I've seen from this corps and should be competitive as the season progresses.

Spartans have made improvements to their show but last night have some rough musical moments. The color guard is excellent and had a great show. Legends should be happy they placed first, but should not be too comfortable.
