As for the pronunciation, think of it as Notre Dame, which is pronounced Nawtre Dahm when referring to the Cathedral in France, and Noter Daym when referring to the University. Of course, Disney screwed that up with the movie.

I'm not positive about the phonology behind the pronunciation of "quixotic", but I would assume it's because it's an English neologism, that's just how it was regularly pronounced as its usage gained popularity.

I don't think the bones were really functional xylo-like instruments -- I don't see how something like that could project as well as it sounded -- check the hi cam to see if the xylo in the pit or the keyboard is playing that line....
