RetiredMusTeach
Thanks for doing this N.E. Brigand. Just saw tonight that my home corps, Music City, scored a whopping 7+ points over their first score: 59.40!!

Legends also sees a nice bump. Nothing against BDB or SCVC, but it would be nice to someone else in first and/or second--it's been five years since either corps was beaten by anyone but the other. Two days off for all O.C. corps now.

In every recent year, this is the week in which a few other corps would overtake the SCVC and BDB scores. Last year on this date, the top twelve scores were held by: 1. Music City, 2. Spartans, 3. Gold, 4. 7th Regiment, 5. Golden Empire, 6. Blue Devils B, 7. Vanguard Cadets, 8. Columbians, 9. Colt Cadets, 10. Legends, 11. Genesis, 12. Watchmen. But the "real" top twelve for the season was probably something like this: 1. Blue Devils B, 2. Vanguard Cadets, 3. Legends, 4. Genesis, 5. Spartans, 6. Columbians, 7. Music City, 8. 7th Regiment, 9. Gold, 10. Louisiana Stars, 11. Raiders, 12. Guardians or Southwind or Golden Empire. And while BDB and SCVC should never be counted out until it happens, eventually someone will beat them. Sure, it hasn't happened since 2012, when Oregon. But before that, they weren't always number one and two. In 2011, Oregon finished second to BDB with SCVC in third. In 2010, Oregon was second and Spartans were third, but that was probably due to SCVC not going to championships. In 2009, third place went to a corps that didn't even exist the next year, but what if Citations had survived the Great Recession? In 2008, third place went to Jersey Surf; what if they hadn't moved up to World Class? Would they be the dominating corps in Open? And just ten years ago, BDB and SCVC finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Third place went to Teal Sound, who later moved up to World Class before folding. Second place went to Surf, thankfully still with us. And the champion that year was the Spartans. They could be again some day. Or Legends or Music City or someone else.

That would be interesting for sure! SCVC and BDB have certainly not declined, though. Music City looks great this year and I think if anyone were to dethrone those two it could be MC. Midwest tour will be interesting this year for open class that's for sure!!!
DrumManTx
The next week to ten days gets VERY exciting. - Mandarins and Pacific Crest compete for the first time in about a week along with BDB and SCVC after a few weeks off of competing themselves. Where will they all stack up against each other? - Shadow premiers and along with Legends go against Pioneer tomorrow night and then you throw in Colt Cadets and River City Rhythm on Saturday in Minnesota. - Music City and Legends go head to head in Rockford. - Great newcomers The Battalion, Columbians, and Golden Empire on Friday and through the weekend. - And a week from Friday there is an awesome OC show with Heat Wave, Southwind, Louisiana Stars, Music City, and Legends all going head to head.

shofmon88
Music City is on a mission this year it seems. I love seeing them so successful. Their show last year is one of my most replayed shows of any corps.
DrumManTx
Color me super impressed with Legends once again. Huge step up in difficulty from last year and they're selling it. That show has a ton of gas in the tank. Maybe not QUITE as energetic/high octane as their last two but it is a very mature show. I suspect there are probably still some additions to come. Really looking forward to seeing that one again. And if Music City is beating that, I CAN'T WAIT to see them!
