Popular Post FaustianMachine
So I got really bored today and decided to flex my math muscles (or rather, Excel's Math Muscles). Seeding for Prelims is determined by averaging the scores from San Antonio, Powder Springs/Winston-Salem (for those that were not in the former), and Allentown. Want to see your favorite corps move up a spot in the lineup? Here's how they can do it in Allentown! Current Standings (Score Needed to Move) Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard (+0.500 over Blue Devils for 1st Seed) Carolina Crown (+1.900 over Santa Clara Vanguard for 2nd Seed) Bluecoats (+1.675 over Carolina Crown for 3rd Seed) The Cavaliers (+2.350 over Bluecoats for 4th Seed) Boston Crusaders (+2.625 over The Cavaliers for 5th Seed) The Cadets (+1.625 over Boston Crusaders for 6th Seed) Phantom Regiment (+3.775 over The Cadets for 7th Seed) Blue Knights (+1.075 over Phantom Regiment for 8th Seed) Crossmen (+3.525 over Blue Knights for 9th Seed) Blue Stars (+0.850 over Crossmen for 10th Seed) Madison Scouts (+3.875 over Blue Stars for 11th Seed) Mandarins (+0.225 over Madison Scouts for 12th Seed) The Academy (+4.875 over Mandarins for 13th Seed) Troopers (+2.725 over The Academy for 14th Seed) Colts (+0.925 over Troopers for 15th Seed and Big, Loud, and Live Appearance) Spirit of Atlanta (+3.275 over Colts for 16th Seed) Pacific Crest (+2.275 over Spirit of Atlanta for 17th Seed) Oregon Crusaders (+1.375 over Pacific Crest for 18th Seed) Genesis (+4.050 over Oregon Crusaders for 19th Seed) Seattle Cascades (+1.350 over Genesis for 20th Seed) Jersey Surf (+6.825 over Seattle Cascades for 21st Seed) Pioneer (+5.850 over Jersey Surf for 22nd Seed)
Jake W.
Thank you for taking the time to crunch these numbers! Specifically, I know I've been wondering the last day or two leading up to Allentown what Colts needed to pop in order be in theaters on Prelims night. Info appreciated!

Hope you weren't up all night doing these figures. Question....can an open class corp displace a world class corp for finals? I know they can compete in quarters and semis but what about finals?
N.E. Brigand
Yes. Or at least, it was certainly true in the past. Magic of Orlando was nominally an Open Class ("Division II") corps when they made World Class ("Division I" finals in 2002. Edited August 4, 2017 by N.E. It actually wasn't too bad, just set up an Excel Spreadsheet and did (A1+B1+C1)/3 = D1 where A, B, and C are the regionals and D is the average. And then I just tested different values for C until the corps below broke the D score of the corps above. As for Open Class in FInals, I'm sure it can happen, but I am not entirely sure. Thanks for doing this. It's very interesting.
shofmon88
Well, Colts made their mark. They were able to displace the Troopers for the 15th spot.
DCPusername
This is the first simultaneously useful and uncontroversial post I've ever seen in this forum. Gold star! Edited August 5, 2017 by DCPusername
DrumManTx
Sad for Troopers but glad for Colts. Sucks that one of them had to be knocked out, there is usually a pretty clear seperation between 15th and 16th. Shows you how deep it runs.

It makes you think about how awesome it would be if DCI could stream the entirety of the event in theatres. I'd be down for that!
