I have to vote the NT Open. My hometown and we won A class in 1976. Saw BD when they were wearing the satin blouses. Saw Argonne, Freelancers, Velvet Knights, Marksmen, Seattle Imperials, Black Watch, Floridians, Charioteers, Pioneer, PrecisionAires, Fire ettes, etc. Great show for a small championship.

But alas, no more drum corps in Western NY anymore. We can host a World Championship but we can't even start up a drum corps. SUCKS!!!

Well, got to say American Legion Nats in '70 (Portland OR) because that was the first Nationals we won .

Also can't forget VFW Nats in'71 (Dallas TX). The most important Nats to me because we finally proved that SCV wasn't just a "flash in the pan, rinky dink" Corps from California.

US OPEN!!

It's a shame that it's no longer... :(

Not only was it strong for division I corps, but it was also a mecca for smaller corps too. It was well run and had a very welcoming atmosphere for both fans and corps! :grrr:

I loved the US Open. Coolest trophy in the world.

I remember as a young lad looking at how impressive that trophy was. What a great show!!!!

It's too bad that DCI wanted full control over the DCI corps and wouldn't allow them attend these shows.

DCI should have, IMO, worked with these shows and let some of the corps attend

these shows and keep them going.

These shows help start a lot of corps in the first place because they were local

and people really liked what they were getting.

Unfortunately, DCI back then, with Don Pescione at the helm, only cared about DCI and not about drum & bugle corps as a whole. IMHO :P
