ffernbus3 Posted September 13, 2004 Share Posted September 13, 2004 (edited) Though I couldn't make the trip I just happened to remember that there was a girl guard member from the 71 Lynwood Diplomats whose bladder actually ruptured on the bus headed for AL Nats in Houston and she had to be hospitalized. Story goes the driver wouldn't stop even though corps members had told him the girl was in severe distress. Can't think of the girl's name (Sasha? Or her sister) but can clearly remember her and what a hard working guard member she was. We memorized it all and played by ear. 5 - What timpani? The only corps I can remember that used drums other than Snares, Tenors and Bass Drums was Hawthorne. 6 - No, we used dummies. 7 - Not quite, they were just coming in. 8 - Battery? All the drummers marched on the field. 9 - We were rumoured to have the heaviest flags on the circuit. 10 - Yes. 11 - Yes. 12 - What contras? Some corps had had two (maybe) or at most four in the late '60s. 13 - Soprano, french horn, baritone, bass baritone 14 - Make sure they'll pass inspection. 15 - Show? We always called them contests. 16 - Yes. 17 - The ultimate disgrace was to pass out on the field. 18 - What camp? We practiced twice a week year 'round. 19 - All the time. 20 - Yes. Harvard's the oldest school in the country. The Cooler is the most gregious example of this I can think of. I guess I'm medium school, because I can remember seeing some of those, but never really did any (83-88, and a pithead to boot. MiamiSun76 Posted September 14, 2005 Share Posted September 14, 2005 Indeed, after years of marching tenors (tri, quad and quints) at 40 years old I have lower back problems.6 different chiropractors ALL attribute it to the harnesses. DefenderSop Posted September 18, 2005 Share Posted September 18, 2005 oh yah....i remenber some of that really old stuff from 72ish. the inspection line... the ready line.... every drummer carrying a drum...or even CYMBALS! using the valve rotary...feeling so special once i got a 2 valve....having a mirror image of me on the other side of the field throughout the whole show.
