The Light Brigade...!

The only guard to get a Standing "O" at the Regional in Norristown this past weekend...a real "hyped" show....and it actually had some semblance of meaning a purpose to it...most of the guards these days seems to do great stuff, but the music is more like background noise than the driving force of the show...and it just doesn't make sense...they announce the name (theme) of their show, but the show itself doesn't seem to have anything to do with the theme...oh well....it's good stuff anyway...

"Fave Winter Color Guards":

This is going back a bit, (actually WAY back, but):

The Casper Troopers had a VFW National & MidWest Circuit multiple champion back in the mid to late 1960s. The "Phantomettes" (Winter Guard of the 1960s Phantom Regiment), Kilties, Madison & Racine Chicago Cavaliers and Mariners (Girls & Boys) all "floored excellent indoor units.

Out East the Boston metro/CYO Circuits had St Kevis Emerald Knights. The Mid Atlantic had the Hawthorne Muchachos, Pequa Squas, Bridgeport's PAL Cadets/Thunderbirds, Sirenettes, and Medowlarks.

This was the era of a more 'militray' style of marching and equipment handling. Some of the units utilized a drummer to keep their cadence. A few used taped music. Dancing was unheard of. Penalties for flag code violations were quite common, particularly in early season contests.
