uncle z
That video from '76. Larry looks like he could take a nap after that solo. I made fun of him for that. I said sheesh Larry, try to calm down already. I never saw anyone look so relaxed playing this honking, screechin' solo. BTW, Larry was on our M&M staff in '81--as a drummer I totally LOVED his lackadaisical approach to leg heights--somewhere around mid-calf as opposed to the ususal heel-to-the-kneecap!!!! :lolhit: (and my knee joints are happier 20+ years later!!!) dc oldtimer
:lolhit: (and my knee joints are happier 20+ years later!!!) Yea, "back in the day" when there was a leg lift, Larry was the only one in the corp that got away with lefting his legs no higher then his ankles. No one really said anthing because he was our best player plus how can you hit triple G's with your legs up to your chest? For me, my knees are fine but my back aches constantly. #### drum corp!! To this day, he is one of the most layed back people I know. I still think he was born in southern California not Chicago. But a great guy! He GAVE me his trumpet some years back when I couldn't afford more then a cornet.
mosthumbleone
And then there was that new corps from down South messing things up.
byline
I hate to disagree with Sue and Nancy (ducks from flying guard equipment),but I thought the magic act AND the pom-pons were kewl!!!! B) Really? Can you explain why? I'm curious and really want to know, because for the most part, all I ever heard was negativity about our using these kinds of theatrical props. It's not that people felt such props were wrong, period. With the right corps using them, they were fine. But many people said to me that the magic act was totally out-of-kilter with Oakland's style. I heard much the same thing about Two-Seven's poms.

Scerpella
Madison's drum line was on fire the whole '78 season right from the get go. Awesome drum solo.Mom Our Drums won prelims, straight number 1 across all sheets. They took third in finals, by 2/10ths. I/10th in ex and on in MA which everyone knows is horsecrap. That Drum Solo led to the "Death Star" formation which was an expanding diamond. The rifle line carried non electrical flashcubes which twinkled in the center file. The camera work was so crappy in my two years (77-78) The rifle line received attention even when there was something interesting going on behind them!
