Walter
That70's Lancer: From the Ludwig-Musser website, this is the last paragraph of the company history: Quote "In 1973 William F. Ludwig, Sr. died, to be succeeded by his son William F. Ludwig, Jr. Ludwig Industries was aquired by the Selmer Company in 1981 to create a synergy in school music markets. Today, ludwig drums are manufactured in Monroe, North Carolina, with tympani and mallet instruments produced in Monroe, Illinois." unquote. Just for those old timers who were wundering, right Roger??? The company name NOW is: Conn-Selmer, Inc. P.O. Box 310 Elkhart, Indiana 46515-0310 U.S.A. uncle z
Fwiw, Uncle Z and I were unwitting dupes in the Japanese plot to take over the marching percussion world, having both been in Cavaliers in '81 when we dumped Slingerland for Pearl halfway through the season. Who knew?...(and if I had, I probably would've tried to buy my 14" TDR before they all went back to the factory for refurbishing). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, at least we got free t-shirts as part of the bargain...... :(
mobrien
"Nobody... I mean NOBODY puts ketchup on a hot dog. " - Harry Callahan. :P Though I do stop by Superdawg once in a great while (taking the slow route on Milwaukee Ave into my old neighborhood), I'm much more a fan of the Wieners Circle on Clark at Wellington (in one my of OTHER old neighborhoods). Surly service guaranteed any hour of the day or night, and char-cheddar dogs hot off the grill with a load of grilled onions includedin the 'everything'. Superdawg's cute, but Wieners Circle is da BOMB! (Oh, I forgot to mention - ON topic - that Ludwig does still make marching percussion gear, but it..well, what's the technical term?...oh yeah, it blows..... :P ) Edited January 7, 2005 by mobrien
