The "Diggity Gene"

I've been involved in this activity for a while, and I've been trying to do drumspeak for a while. Whenever I hear it, I say "I'd like to do that." But every time I try, I simply can't do it. zigity zigity zat turns into diggity do-do.

My theory: It's genetic, kiinda like being able to roll your tongue.

Being the son of a percussionist(and around corps from birth) I learned to do it at a young age. It DOES however require alot of practice!

I simply can't do it as well today as I could back when I marched and was always around the drummers who were always doing it! Now it comes out more like: Ziggity Zat ZZZlllppphhhhp......... :sshh:

From what I heard (and read), it is a recessive gene that goes back to our cave-man ancestors.

All you have to do is spend a night or 2 on the drum bus, and you'll pick up this "ability" whether you want to or not. :P
