Moe Latour

Moe's probably walking the floor of some relief shelter: "Good morning ladies and gentlemen, Katrina time is 8:30. We have no food, water or working toilets, but the Red Cross will be here shortly. Evacuation is scheduled for 9:30. Please pack your belongings form a single-file line at the door and be ready to board the busses." ^_^

Seriously, I pray that Moe and his sister made it out safely. Moe is such a caring, positive person (and a DCI Hall of Famer!). Life on the road just would not be as comforting without Moe.

Awesome...

Bringsback memories of many middle of the night bus departures

God bless.

from YEA! and DCI:

Moe Latour, tour manager for the Cadets for many years, and past manager for the Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment and Star of Indiana, lives in Kenner, La., an area near to the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina.

The Cadets have tried to locate Moe for the past few days with no luck. Moe does not have a cell phone or e-mail, and they are reasonably sure his house has been seriously flooded, as he lived close to the airport.

Moe did talk to Megh Healy of the Cadets administrative team this past

Saturday evening, and he and his sister were still debating whether to evacuate. Of course, we hope they did, and that they are just too busy with life to give a call.

If you hear anything about Moe, please call 201.960.0605. If you know of anyone who might know Moe or his family, please give them a call.

Any info would help!

Updates on Regiment alumni in Katrina's wake

Dan Farrell reports that MARTY HURLEY (staff '75-'92)is safe as he and family fled to Lafayette before Katrina hit. As of now his New Orleans suburban home has not flooded, but he fears his school (Brother Martin HS) may be underwater.

Has anyone heard from Duane LeBlanc? He moved back out to New Orleans two years ago and was teaching at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge.

Carolina Crown got good news today about two of our alums from the hurricane ravaged areas of the Gulf Coast. Jessica Speers (P04-05) and Steven Musmusche (P99-01) from Louisiana both contacted us indicating they are safe.

Carolina Crown has dozens of alumni, volunteers and supporters from the Gulf Coast. Our thoughts are with them during this time, and we ask that anyone getting word about any of them contact Moe at the Crown office (moe@carolinacrown.org) to let us know!

Here's some others received since then:

Moe,

Just wanted to let you guys know that my family and I rode out the storm in Louisiana and made it through just fine, thank God. Unfortunately, some of my friends weren’t as fortunate, so please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Hi Moe,I left LSU last Sunday with a few of my friends. I got home safely enough, even though ittook 6 hours longer than usual. School has been cancelled for a while and they're using LSU as a massive shelter, so I don't know when things will get back to normal, if they ever will. Thanks for your concern, Becky Stevenson (B05)

-------------------- Subject: FYI: Jeremy's hurricane updateHey guys, It's Jeremy Claud (G03-05)! I've received a lot of calls and instant messages from a lot of crownies, and because my otheremail address is currently floating in a destroyed server at the University, I decided to write an email en masse. As you all know, I should be used to hurricanes by now, but alas this was "the big one". Fortunately I hadn't moved into my chic apartment yet, so I was in Pensacola, FL when Katrina hit. But unfortunately, I've lost everything I decided to store in New Orleans(including my vehicle). My mom said, "There must've been a guardian angel watching over you, that's why your apartment wasn't ready." Hmm, and we just finished a season doing an Angels show.. coincidence? I THINK NOT! haha. Also interesting, I was reading an article from a New Orleans paper and the writer wrote a descriptive scene where the LA Lottery billboard was ripped to shreds except for the numbers 4 and 4 left. Just one more four and that would've be in wet my pants creepy. Oh well. My Mom also said materialistic thingscan be replaced, I should just be happy that I'm not stuck in the chaos of the city right now, which is very depressing to watch. Well, since my college is closed indefinitely for the semester, they have given us the option to go to any of the other 27 Catholic Jesuituniversities in the United States. So for this fall, I am a "visiting advertising student" at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Who'd a thunk it? By the time you get this email, I will be wearing a cheese hat. As for my plans next semester? Well, it all depends on the situation of the city... if it's back to normal operations then I'll be back... if not then I'll most likely apply to study abroad in France spring semester through my school. Viva La France! Well that's my 411 on the situation. I can't express enough gratitude to everyone that has tried to contact me in the past few days. I've been through a roller coaster of emotions this past week(the biggest natural disaster in US history and lucky me gets directly effected). I appreciate having the oppurtunity to vent to everyone, and this email is in a way theraputic for me. lol, jk. Hope everyone has a better fall and winter season! (which shouldn't be too hard :) )

By googling his address the following name came up as well:

Priscilla Latour -(the phone # and address matches the phone # I have for him).

If I recall, his sister had heart problems prior to tour last summer (04) -

Moe we are thinking of you - and the many you have touched over your years in drum corps are here to help. We hope you and all the other affected drum corps fans are ok.

Joe

Crossmen alum Sharon Blakeny (sp?) was from Gulfport, Mississippi. Any word on her whereabouts?

If this is about Sharon Cordray, who was in Xmen's guard in the late 70's, who also marched Blue Stars, we can provide good news about Sharon, her husband Jack and her family from Spirit's alumni message board. Her son, Shane, marched Spirit this past year after several years with Teal Sound. Sharon and her family live in Long Beach, Mississippi, where she works as a teacher. The many Spirit of Atlanta alumni from the years 1977-early 1980's who recall all too well the summer of '79 and the whole truck wreck/bus breakdown summer tour greatly enjoyed getting to know Sharon and reminiscing this season when she was around camps and all-days when her son joined Spirit. Spirit alumna Nora Bierce Whisenant, who runs Spirit's souvenir operation, got in touch with her, and posted the following:

"Just spoke with Sharon Cordray. They're all OK, YEAH!"

"They went to stay at her sister-in-law's house north of I-10 because it "never floods", but this time it did... They've lost all three of their cars and had to stand on chairs to stay out of the flood waters due to the storm surge but the water receeded and they're OK. They don't have power but are lucky because where they're staying is on a well, has a septic tank, and they have a generator but they can't get any gas so they're wondering how long it will be before they have to try to get to her sister's in N. Mississippi."

"They were able to get down to see their home and and they have several trees on the house and were trying to put some tarps on the roof to keep the water out. They think the house will be "fixable"."

"Her cell phone is not working where they are staying and she called from their house where she was getting a signal. She said she'd call back later when she can."

"I asked if there was anything we could do and she said to keep them in our thoughts and they may ask for some assistance for friends and family who have lost everything. She has a relative in Bay St. Louis who has lost everything. Sharon's husband's job at the casino is gone, the schools are not going to open for at least a month and she's not sure they'll pay them..."

"She said if she finds out about any of the members from the gulf area she'll let us know."

There are about 100 evacuees in a county park facility only a few miles from where Mike and I live here in Marietta, Georgia, and we are an 8-hour drive from the disaster region. Mike interviewed some of them yesterday morning for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and they told him they didn't even know where they were going when they got on the plane. One man said he thought they were bound for Houston until the pilot went on the intercom and announced, "Welcome to Atlanta".

It is indescribable and unimaginable. I already ache, imagining what crews will find next week and in the weeks to come, when thorough house-to-house searches begin. The public health effect, especially psychological, for those who lived through the horror, is going to be enormous.

As a couple of people have tried to put it in perspective, the area affected is the same size as:

*** the state of Kansas

*** the entire area of the British Isles

I think what we're seeing is a turning point in American history.

Ya'll please keep these people in your thoughts and/or prayers.

Carla Morris
