MiamiSun76
Thanks to the good people at corpreps for this picture from the 1974 Phantom Regiment. So, admittedly, I was wrong. PR started wearing the helmets in 1975, three years after the official start of the Bluecoats. Now, you will not find a picture of this from 1972 or 1973 for the Bluecoats, but I guess you will just have to take the word of a drum corps dinosaur. Now, if I recall, there was a time when Bluecoats wore a black plume. The Bluecoats were a fantastic drum in the 1970s. Just because they did American Legion and VFW shows doesnt make them any less important, or as many would say in the period of 1973-1976, less popular. Please trust me, you do not want to start a flame war on drum corps history (DCI vs. VFW, etc.). The Bluecoats did popularlize the helmet with plume, but if you ask any Blue Stars member, they will say that they made it popular as well. If find it disheartening that the winner in anything, over time, gets to write (or re-write) history. Elmo Blatch So would the Belleville Black Knights. MiamiSun76
As much as i like shakos, i like a twist, offset plums, or the odd stuff Southwind came out with, either way i like a look that fits the status quo yet is also different.Just please make it look good. Oh, the clown band look. You must love the Shriners, too. :P
Halcyon122
Aussie hats definitely. They're just cooler, I don't know how to explain it. My band wears Aussies, our uniforms are pretty much the same as the Crossmen from the early 90's (our BD is an ex-Crossmen)... :)
Max Plays Music
I'm all about the ball caps we ware here at USF, we have shakos but we make the choice not to use them... but for DC i enjoy the shako more than the hat.
dmfootworks
I always like VK’s ball caps!!! Add long hair and tails for even greater effect! mallettosis
well you want something distinctive for head attire...try the blue stars helmets...patented so only one corps will ever use them... There is a god.......
gumby5647
I liked Cadets shakos without the purple top.
MaxwellNotes
Personally I like the fact that some corps use shakos and some use Aussies. I think it depends on the corps and since I am a traditionalist, I like the fact that BD, Cadets and others use shakos, Phantom and Bluecoats use helmets and madison and SCV use Aussies. J.C.
Tams baby! It's all about tams... with one exception. For some reason the Ohio State marching band uniform just looks wrong with the red tams. It must be because the rest of the uniform looks so much like the Blue Star uni that the red tam looks out of place.
