Your opinion: '05 Top 5 Div. II vs 18-24 Div. I

Recommended Posts

sorry guys but i think size matters. A 135 member corps at the same level as a 90 member corps will always win.

Well I don't completly agree.

Boston and Seattle Imperials did quite well with small corps for a long time.

You're right in that they couldn't make finals with those small numbers, but they were able to beat many other larger units because quality does also matter.

Also many of the div I's were are talking about didn't have close to 135. I think all five could beat Kiwanis. I enjoyed their show, but competitivly I think of them as a div II corps. Pioneer needs to shed the Irish thing and step up creatively to stay in div I. I also wish Pioneer's drum line would learn to balance the hornline; they over powered them for most of the show.

But a 90-member corps at a higher level....

I haven't seen too many div. 2 corps that are better than any div. 1 corps, but your right if a 90 member corps was just simply better than a 135 member corps than yeah they would win.

SCVC made semis in 2000, Magic made finals in 02 (though that certainly is an extreme case), Cap Reg made semis in 02, Patriots came in 18th in 99, and Mandarins and Cascades both made semis in 2001.

Sure, most of those corps are in Division 1 right now, but there's no evidence to show that those corps were any better than the top 5 of Div 2 right now. Also, when you have a Divison 2 corps that wins a title or gets a medal, a lot of the talent moves on having achieved all they want at the lower level. So those lower echelon D1 corps might have actually been better the years they were in Divison 2.
