apoch003
A common misconception is that you are not off your marker, the entire rest of the corps is. A common misconception is that a drum corps mom will give you a good haircut. A common misconception is that your bus will never break down. A common misconception is that small size crowd shows aren't as important as the big DCI shows. A common misconception is that the drum major is out of step. A common misconception is that the sprinkler hole isn't that deep. A common misconception is that you'll never have to clean the toilets in the bathrooms. A common misconception is that you're hungry enough to eat even whatever that slop is in the kitchen that was just slapped onto your plate. A common misconception is that the A/C on the bus will never break. A common misconception is that you packed enough batteries or tour money. A common misconception is that "you know what you're doing at all times".
Blackstar
From my experience; Not able to do laundry ever while on tour or do it from a bucket, hence going "commando" the second part of each tour. Only seeing highways and telling your kids you were in 18 states and 33 cities and not having seen any sights. Making friends with the "local girls" but nothaving enough time to "close" the deal Making friends with members of other corps and but not having time to "close" the deal One person asking if you want Coke (but not having a soda in hand), Weed or _______insert drug of choice here Looking back in ten years and saying "I was in Corning NY?" Running from the bus to the field without warming up because the bus was lat The bus cathcing fire....and only finding out when the cars are honking and pointing. Coming home and only being able to use the bathroom after getting off the bus. (takes a while for the system to go back to normal) Coming home and only being able to sleep in the living on a chair. Coming home looking like your black because the tan is so deep. (well I'm black anyway but was REAL black when I came home.
azwethinkweizm
Expect to have to change into uniform in front of everyone.... and not care about it. Oddly, that's what I took away from high school marching band.

apoch003
Surprising things on tour... The entire rest of the corps WASN'T off. It WAS me! People from my corps still look up to me 20 years later. It's not that bad, cleaning up the bathrooms. Other corps members are just as young as you are. And they're friendly as all get out.... just not on the field. SCV members are big fans of Spokane Thunder, etc... Sometimes, a tornado DOES come in the night. Instructors are just as fritzed as we are, although they're not actually marching. It's possible to push out the very back window of a bus and watch it sail away on the highway, until it actually crashes on the pavement. Teenagers are one hormone laden bunch (can't get more explicit than that) without their "every other day" privacy. I cared so much for each and every member of my corps. (I really was surprised at this).
