MKK
After reading the thread of name change suggestions for VK, I was wondering if anyone knows the origin of the names of different corps. Was there a reason (other than sliding off the tongue nicely) why corps were given the names they have?
Keith Laubhan
I've read that the Blue Devils are so named because blue is the color of the VFW and they're next to Mt. Diablo. Bluecoats were founded by a police boys club, hence the blue coats. Despite having been the corps, I couldn't tell you why the Blue Knights are named that. Like a food packaging company or something like that who sponsored the corps originally.

chadwick
Spirit of JSU, well..duh...they are affiliated with Jacksonville State University in Alabama, and they have spirit :P The Magic, I think this has to do with Disney World. I wish they were still Magic of Orlando, instead of "The Magic"...not a big fan of the new name. I wonder where "Crossmen" and "Glassmen" came from? boilerman_05
I wonder where "Crossmen" and "Glassmen" came from? Glassmen (formerly Glass City Optimists), were named after Toledo being the glass capital of the world. CrossmenAlumni
I wonder where "Crossmen" and "Glassmen" came from? Toledo is the "city of glass." Crossmen - long story short: Merger corps of Keystone Regiment and 507 Hornets. The Hornets were sponsored by American Legion Post 507, which was named in honor of World War I veteran John Wesley Cross. Hence, the Crossmen.
