Tony L.
What is the closest spread ever between 1-12 at Finals? With the middle and bottom of the Top 12 getting so strong, this year there could be anywhere from 10-13 or 14 between the Top 12. Especially when the corps batling for semifinals are also getting so good, the scores could end up being really tight between 1-12. On the current weighted rankings, there is approximately 10 points between Cavaliers and Spirit. Give the compression of the Top 12, there should be a lot of volatility during finals week as a tenth here or there could mean 2 or 3 placements. Either way, it should be very exciting. bluecoats88
Once again 1988 sets the record with the smallest spread between 1st and 12th at 12 points. 1983 sets the record for the largest spread of 20.65. The average spread between 1st and 12th is 15.03. And Spirit in 2005 set the record for highest 12th place score with a 86.075 passing the Colts 86.00 from 1999. prokofiev11
Thanks for the "chart" -- that's really interesting.... should be fun to see how this year fits in!
shawn craig
Along the same lines I think 8 corps is the most in one year to score in the 90's at finals. I wonder if that record could be broken?
bluecoats88
I did notice that in 2002 8 corps all scored 91 or better, but the 9th corps was under 90.
skd7781
I think this will be one %^$# of a season by the end!
bluecoats88
it's also interesting to note that the Sky Ryders were in 12th place in 1988 for the closest spread between 1 and 12, and they were also in 12th place in 1983 for the largest spread between 1 and 12. bradrick
I did notice that in 2002 8 corps all scored 91 or better, but the 9th corps was under 90. (I'm editing this as I find really close top 6 clusters on corpsreps.com) Look at how close the top 6 were in these years 1988 - top 6 spread = 3.6 97.1 Madison Scouts 96.9 Santa Clara Vanguard 96.3 Blue Devils 96.1 The Cadets 95.1 The Cavaliers 93.5 Phantom Regiment 1989 - top 6 spread = 3.5 98.8 Santa Clara Vanguard 98.4 Phantom Regiment 97.2 The Cavaliers 95.9 Blue Devils 95.6 The Cadets 95.3 Star of Indiana 1990 - top 6 spread = 3.7 97.7 The Cadets 96.9 The Cavaliers 96.5 Star of Indiana 95.3 Blue Devils 95.3 Phantom Regiment 94 Santa Clara Vanguard 1991 - top 6 spread = 3.3 97 Star of Indiana 96.3 The Cavaliers 95.4 Phantom Regiment 94.4 Santa Clara Vanguard 93.8 Blue Devils 93.7 The Cadets Anybody think it could be this close in 2006? chadwick
And Spirit in 2005 set the record for highest 12th place score with a 86.075 passing the Colts 86.00 from 1999. Spirit, currently in 12th place, scored an 83.35 last night. With 2 weeks to go, they just might break their own record again this year come Finals.
