There was a poll on here after the season with about 75% of DCP liking it and 25% not.

BD last year on the other hand...

Chorus? Crown had a quartet two years ago; this year, one corps has a solo singer. It doesn't seem to me we're moving towards choirs.

For the record, another corps, Capital Regiment, features amplified singing during their show.

If you want to get real nit-picky, the "X105" station ID the Crossmen do during the "channel surfing" portion of their show is singing, too. :D

In that case: mandatory choirs by 2008.

But they DID just sit there unused for a long time.

They served one purpose in the ballad, used very effectively IMO. To create the different height dimensions, to visually portray the importance of the mellophone voice to the music at that part of the show, etc.

They served another purpose for the rest of the show. Also used very effectively IMO. The "form" they were in was adjusted to create a stage by which sections were featured, and through which the corps set up specific impact points. So while they may not have been "used" in that nobody was climbing on them, they were most definitely used in a different manner as a design tool. I didn't think they could pull off getting the entire hornline inside that shape, but sure enough they did. And it was an amazingly well coordinated and well performed moment. And having just watched the show again, I see them being "used" virtually every second they're on the field, in one of the manners I described here or the other.

Most D1 corps have some type of vocalization? Really?

Because I can only think of 5.

Also, everyone didn't complain about the Cadets, lots of people liked our show :)

Stop, take a slow breath, and repeat after me

"The sky is not falling. The sky is not falling. The sky is not falling."

Most of those are really pretty silly. Also, singing is already scored in Ensemble Music and Music GE. They will not add a singing caption.

We said years ago they wouldn't add amplifaction and we now have it. We said alot of things wouldn't happen but it did.

I didn't start this as a cry for help it was something I've been thinking about for a while. I'm looking at trends. While singing (or chanting of some type) has been around for a long time, amps makes it larger part of the show.

Next year you'll see more singing. Snapettes jokling asked about individual mikes. Would it really be that hard to mike a whole corps with new tech coming out everyday?

It's funny how people complain about Cadets but allow Cavaliers, or whoever else to do the same thing but on a smaller scale.

But the sky is falling and has been since 1969 when the activity started to decline but thats for another thread.

I'm just stating the trends that I've noticed over the years. good or bad.

What do I see happening in the next 5-7 years.

Total on field members 140, with 110-120 playing, 6-8 "prop masters" 2 soundboard people and larger pits and a chorus.

Scoring that includes judged singing with deductions for mechinical malfunctions and prop failures

More instructors for voice and stagehands.

Higher cost due to the larger membership which means less corps overall

A switch in instrumentation.

Only 2 classes of corps based on skill level and not size. Corps will either be full size or small 30-60 members.

More corps in DCA then DCI due to the weekend schedule and lower cost.

More Indoor corps competing alongside bands.

It may not become true but it's my gut feeling.

If it does, my financial support of corps who go this route will cease, and I will NEVER attend a DCI event that allows these rules!!!
