gellio
Ok, I know this is a really dumb topic, but I'm going to post it anyway. Why are they called "The Cadets" and "The Cavaliers" instead of "Cadets" and "Cavaliers"? Why doesn't everyone else have the "The" infront of their name? I hear the announcers say, "The Cadets, you may take the field in competition" vs "Santa Clara Vanguard, you may take the field in competition." Why isn't it, "THE Santa Clara Vanguard, you may take the field in competition!"? So, if someone marched The Cadets, do they say, "I marched in the The Cadets"? :P Of couse not, but would be more correct if "The" is part of their name. Dumb, I know, but I am just curious! Dumb, I know, but I am just curious! ACtually my friends who are in The Cadets...say they marched with the Cadets....just as someone would say they marched THE Madison Scouts...that is grammatically correct...I really do not know why certain ones use the THE i think it is corps' discretion i'm sure...? Wild Nights
Well, see, there's apparently some basketball team also named "Cavaliers," so we're just making sure the world knows: we're THE Cavaliers... :P
Kyle B
"The" is part of their name. Along the same lines, I went to The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State.) When they were changing the name to that, it was originally just going to be called College of New Jersey, but Princeton sued them (it is Princeton's original name) and forced them to put 'the' in. Hence why every t-shirt made says TCNJ. Edited August 10, 2006 by CrossmenBaritone
