impulsivemom
I can't tell all of you how very proud I was to watch each and every one of the Div III Corps today. (Actually Tuesday was just as wonderful !) The weather was overcast to start with and the clouds started getting darker right before Yamato went on the field. It was one of those hold your breath type moments....let the other four corps perform before the skies open up (like they did last night about 6:00 here). Citations - Really nice sound for a small corps. Kudos to those kids for putting on a nice show. Capital Sound - This one was really hard for me since most of their music is the same as Impulse and I tried to not make comparisions between the two corps because obviously they have different arrangers and also their is a difference in the size. But, I liked what I heard and enjoyed their enthusiasm. Dutch Boy - I like this Corps! I had never seen them perform prior to this week and I was impressed with everything I saw and heard. Very Nice! Spokane Thunder - Great Brass, nice marching and moves. I was blown away with the size of their brass line since I have not seen this group perform previous to this week. Awesome sound!! Thunderous for a Div III. Keep up the great work! Fever - This guard rules! Very, very clean, nice flags that brought good visual to the field. All of these guys and gals were just right on with their timing, throws, spins and movements. Great Job!! Yamato - Always enjoy watching them and seeing how quickly they get up to speed in bringing the two contingents (from Riverside, CA and Japan) together to make a nice show. They had changed a bit since the last time I saw them at their home show in the later part of July. Instead of having those wind tunnel type things in the pit that they twirled at the beginning of the show, they instead went with a light chime sound from the pit and battery which was a nice change and still gave a similar sound effect. Would be great if they can sneak in under the wire for Finals, but tomorrow is the telling factor. Know that they were going out right after today's performance to practice...no let down. Nice show. Raiders - Again, another corps that I am only seeing for the first time this season here in Madison. I like the corps and they get a lot of support from their fans in the stands! I've never been a fan of putting props up right behind the pit which tends to be more distracting to me. Just my opinion, it's just not something I care for. Nice overall sound, but the guard today had their problems across the board with rifle drops and flag drops. They did not have this happen on Tuesday, so it's just one of those things that we sure wish would not happen to anyone at anytime. Revolution - Where do they get all those brass players - what a sound !! Nice guard, nice pit, nice show overall. The music seems a little dark, but if a corps is going to carry off that type of music, then this corps is it! Wonderful performance today! Impulse - It's a fun show to watch and they perform the music incredibly well....but, I'm biased. There is no doubt, they are having a blast out there and it sure comes out in the music. To all the Corps - Thank you for making today a great day! Each and every one of you are winners in my book! All of you have talent, ability and great teamwork....these are skills that you will use for the rest of your life and I for one applaud you for giving it your all !! (Not to mention giving up your summer to spend nights in the gym, practicing under extreme weather conditions, smelling bus fumes and having the time of your life!) I for one am blessed to have had the privilege and opportunity to watch each of your performances. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! DrumCorpsMom
Ditto. Even though we have no kids in Div III, and my son aged out of Div I last year, we made a point of going out to the show today. We firmly believe that Div III kids work harder and are more chellenged than any other division out there. They all met or exceed our expectations! We were entertained and enjoyed the show immensely. Thanks!
Murph
Revolution - Where do they get all those brass players - what a sound !! Absolutely! I know this will end up starting a dead horse debate, but G horns ROCK! I saw these guys in Jackson, TN this year. I was with a group of friends and when the first note of the warm up started we were all perking up. I said, " wow, that sounds like a G line." As they built the sound more and more and MORE, the crowd went nuts. The best part is that they have been scoring so high in the brass caption! Anyone who is not watching Div II/III is missing the best part of drum corps.

Impulse went to the B horns a couple of years ago and I think really for financial reasons (many, most, of the members carry their own horns,) but those G horns, especially those Kanstuls they had, were the best, what a sound in the stands. Just my opinion Dad Edited August 12, 2006 by Impulsivedad
Tansea
Impulse rocks!!!! Go Impulse!
revoeuph
The only problem with G horns is they're really hard to tune well, though Revo is definitely good at making them work.
Murph
Well that arguement can go both ways. I heard corps this year in all 3 divisions that didn't play their multi-key hornlines in tune. Everyone keeps saying that multi-key is "easier to tune". We've had 6 years now to work on it. Get it fixed! That's why it's so impressive to see Revolution's brass scores. They did it on what most people today consider to be "inferior" equipment!
